View Full Version : My 19 Y.O. Has Her Valentine's Day Gift Request In

So I get home late last night from work, and I want a few minutes of peace and quiet. I'm SOL.

Among the many demands coming my way from sharing a home with three females, my 19 y.o. walks in and sez:

"Are you getting (the 6 y.o.) and me anything for Valentine's Day?

Like I'm gonna say No.

"Well, I want a gift certificate from the tanning salon."

I don't think I have asked for anything from my parents since I was a six year old boy, and they asked me what I wanted for Christmas.

Now, the kid is telling me what she wants for Valentine's Day??

She likes Starbucks - I was going to actually get her a card from Starbucks - this sort of dampened my spirits. I later expressed my hatred for these Hallmark holidays to Mrs. VJ, who just laughed because she knows there'll be flowers delivered on Tuesday.

19 Y.O.'s birthday is in May. Maybe I should ask her what the holdup is, and can I give her the gift early as a token of my pro-activeness as a FREEKIN' Dad!!??

I know. I changed the wording a couple of times for that very reason.

yeah, i have never expected gifts for valentine's day. that's weird. I even told Iggy he doesn't need to get me anything other than a card and take me to dinner.

I wish, oh, how I wish, I had these little aggravations on Valentine's Day.
She does get flowers, though.

I always thought of Valentine's Day as the day before I get back together with the girl I broke up with the day after Thanksgiving.

Sorry,
Sometimes it's just a heavy load, especially on this occasion, Xmas, her birthday, and other special times.
I shouldn't have wrecked a funny and happy thread and I apologize, but sometimes an emotional artery bursts and, well, again, I'm sorry.

No need to apologize LF. We all need reminders of the brevity of life.

Ahh don't be sorry, I think I speak for most of the people here when I say that sometimes I take a lot of things for granted and it is nice to be reminded how wonderful my life is. On those days, just remember how wonderful she was and all of the happy times you had together. I know she would want you to be happy at those times of the year.

LF,

Every day is precious and they could be over at any time. It never hurts to be reminded of this, and the fact that we should be thankful for the time we have.

Thanks.

Hell, we never do anything on Valentine's Day. The crowds at the restaurants are beyond terrible. We usually do something a few days later.

After a 3 hour wait at the Cheesecake Factory one year, we said we would never do that again.

My wife is lucky I give her anything. ;)

I sure as hell ain't going to give Valetine's gifts to every female family member.

I, for one, don't think you have anything to apologize for. If I was Catholic I'd go light a candle in a cathedral for you.

Heck, I might light one here anyway, the house is kind of stinky. ;)
