They never seem to start with Lawton though...

the land around Woolaroc and also west of B'ville towards the Osage Hills State Park is some of the nicest in the state.

Also, OKC is just a larger version of Amarillo.

Well, OKC has just really become a real city, and I am happy for that.

And Tulsa needs so much work on infrastructure, jobs etc.

But one thing important to me is eating, and Tulsa has much better restaurants than OKC.

Not sure why, but that is undisputed fact.

at least OKC doesn't have a bunch of nasty refineries.

Really, though, last night I went to a concert up at Cains and it was the first time I've gotten off the highway in Tulsa in my 26 years of living in Oklahoma. I was pretty impressed.

midtown Tulsa is hard to beat. Downtown will never have a Bricktown feel because they've turned most of the old buildings into parking lots.
My gf's Dad is a city planner and he gets red when you talk about the City Council.

And, the state fairgrounds in OKC doesn't compare, it's a craphole.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
However, if you visit refineries down around Corpus or in in California they dress up the area around the refineries enuff that you don't really notice the refinery.

The founder of SKYY vodka and some other bizzillionaire just bought like 1/2 of downtown now, and I believe their intent is to really pump some money into a lot of those old buildings.

They said they did the same in NYC, so I guess they know what they are doing.

I think it's a bad location because there's isn't a lot of room for growth with it pinned between the federal/county courthouses, the old convention center and those pesky railroad tracks.

edit: and the bus station and the jail are nice additions too.

I would've liked to have seen them built it over in Greenwood, or next to where the Spaghetti Warehouse & Caz's is located over on Brady. I think it would have accelerated the growth in that area that is already primed for it, whereas in the space they chose, they'll be fighting tooth and nail just to get anything close to it.

Mjcpr

Isn't there room to the north of it? I think that's where that apartment building is that the City shut down, among other dumps.

I'm not that familiar with the area near Greenwood you're speaking of...are there a lot of businesses there? Maybe it was a matter of affordability.....I dunno.

Tulsa has CrookedX:D

Crooked X was formed in April of 2005 and is comprised of 4 hard rocking 12 year olds! Their sound is definately inspired by Metallica with a little southern rock influence here and there. "Crooked X's" musical ability and maturity far exceeds their age.

Within a few short months "Crooked X" was featured live on Tulsas Rock Station KMOD. They are the youngest group ever to be featured on the morning show with Phil and Brent. They recieved E-Mails from their fans as far away as Iraq from soldiers who listened to the broadcast. Soon after, "Crooked X" was featured live on KOTV Channel 6 in Tulsa with TV personality Omar Villafranca. Crooked X original "GRAVEYARD" was featured on "HOMEGROAN" with Jay Pitts on Z 104.5. Thanks Jay!

With over 20 shows under thier belts, "Crooked X" has had a consistent schedule of local shows and has developed a great group of die hard fans. "Crooked X" has been accepted to play at the Music Pool at Lake Eufaula in April and has several out-of-town venues in the works.

Crooked X looks forward to rocking in your town soon!!!!!!:D

Why would you say that? With it, they can probably get some concerts that we wouldn't be able to get w/o it (do you think Paul McCartney would go to OKC and play The Myriad?). They can bid on NCAA regionals, C-USA tourneys, Mid-Conn, etc. I just think it gives Tulsa a better opportunity of attracting better events than they have now. I could be wrong.

And I don't know that the arena alone will help spur downtown development, but it will help. As will the private investment from folks such as the vodka dude.
