The domers got an All American lineman from Tulsa Edison back when I was in college at OU(or HS at Tulsa Kelly) named Mike Fanning. He was a star in the pros, too, but I don't remember what pro team. What about any number of Okla. players who made aggies of themselves. Aggy has had a FEW stars, as has Tulsa. Or that goofy guy mark Gastineau, who played for East Central in Ada. He was all pro, I think.

Steve Largent is in the NFL Hall of Fame and is one of the great receivers of all time. Will Shields who is from Lawton had a great career at Nebraska and is a future Hall of Famer with the Chiefs.

He said in an interview that I watched that the biggest reason he didn't come was that he wanted to play in the 'bone & by the time he was getting out of H.S., we were moving away from it. Couple that with the fact that we were in the process of getting drilled by the NCAA & it was over before it started.

Troy played at ouPlayed quite a bit really early, actually. I still think if we hadn't won it all with JH, in the offense that Barry promised to change when he recruited Troy, that Troy would have come back.

As good a football player as he is, he was a punk in college. I'm glad we had Trent Smith instead.

In no particular order...

Mark Gastineau - Ada
Steve Largent - Tulsa (?)
Jim Thorpe - Yale
There was a really good linebacker that went from East Central to a good pro career. Clifford Thrift, I think it was, but I'm not sure he was an Okie.. just played his college ball at ECU.
Garrett Mills - Tulsa (Okay, I just like the way the guy plays. Never heard of him before this last season ;) )
Wes Welker - OKC area I think
Mickey Mantle - Commerce :D

Scott Tinsley, Putnam City West (USC)(Oakland Raiders)
Mike Fanning, Tulsa Edison (Notre Dame)(Detroit Lions)
Jeremy Shockey, Ada (Miami)(New York Giants)
Jim Thorpe, Prague (Carlisle Industrial Indian School)(Canton Bulldogs)
Troy Aikman, Henryetta (OU/UCLA)(Dallas Cowboys)
Wes Welker, OKC Heritage Hall (Texas Tech)(Miami)

Darrien Gordon, Shawnee (Stanford)(San Diego Chargers/Denver Broncos)
Jon Kolb, Owasso(Oklahoma State)(Pittsburgh Steelers)

BTW:
Howard Twilley graduated from Galena Park, TX High School

Reggie was more talented- FAST FAST - Tony declared early for the Draft as a Junior and then backed out- it was a big fiasco and one of the first cases of it...

Hell I believe ND was able to get him eligiable again some how..

John Ward, Tulsa Rogers grad 1966; same year as Steve Owens from Miami. Ward played at OkSt and, I think, was an All Big 8 selection guard; played a few years with Minnesota in the NFL.

Kevin Brown, PK from Foyil played at Nebbish; now with Houston, Texas. We can include him on this list if you really want to include PK's as football players. Old School guys like Alex Karras and Art Donovan probably wouldn't.

But IMHO, Thorpe is the best by far. Every time someone asks me who the best football player, best athlete, to come out of Oklahoma, I always say Jim Thorpe.

no if you played for the Sooners you were a Sooner
if you played for OSU you're a Cowboy
if you played for Tulsa you're a Hurricane
If you played for Miami you're part of the U
If you played for ND you're a Fightin Irishmen

Shaq and Kobe have been to OKC that don't make them a Sooner. Has nothing to do with fans just that Barry Sanders, Steve Largent, Mike Minter weren't Sooners they were Cowboy, Hurricane and Cornhusker and none them would ever claim to be a Sooner. This thread is gay started by gay Cowpoke troll.
