So I was listening to this song (because I like it) by Dexy's Midnight Runners, and as many times as I've heard it I still don't have a frickin clue what the lyrics are.

So I looked them up.

The sad part is it actually has better lyrics than a lot of stuff, but you can't understand a WORD of it when you listen to the song! yeesh

Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio, he moved a million hearts in mono.
Our mothers cried and sang along and who'd blame them.
Now you're grown, so grown, now I must say more than ever.
Go Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye
and we can sing just like our fathers.

Come on Eileen,
I swear (well he means) At this moment you mean everything,
With you in that dress my thoughts I confess verge on dirty
Ah come on Eileen.

These people round here wear beaten down eyes
Sunk-in smoke dried faces they're so resigned to what their fate is,
But not us, no not us we are far too young and clever.
Remember Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye
Eileen I'll hum this tune forever.

Come on Eileen, I swear, well he means
Ah come on let's take off everything,
That pretty red dress Eileen (Tell him yes)
Ah come on let's, ah come on Eileen, please.

There's a parody shirt of the song at tshirthell.com. Cracks me up.

I never knew what the exact lyrics of that song was either. All I remember was "Johnny Ray," and "far too young and clever."
When I first heard the song, in the early 80s, there was a baseball player named Johnny Ray, who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and for some reason I thought they were singing about him.

Okay, I listened to the song on my computer. These were the lyrics I thought I heard, till PG set us straight:
Poor ol' Johnny Ray
said he sat upon the radio with a billion hearts of unknown
Our mothers sat along and who could blame them
You've known so known, now I must say go home or never
Too-la-lo-ra-ray-ray when you sing you're rolling a boulder.
(chorus)
whoa I swear this means at this moment you mean everything
You paid that dress by four times I confess.
Aren't you dirty? Well come on Eileen.
These People round here Well, by God I suck his blood off his face and presented what they're fighting
But those eyes, those eyes,
Me you're far too young and clever. Back off.
To-lar-lr-ray-rayl I need to hump this truth forever.
(chorus)
Oh come on let's take up everything.
Are you in that dress? I must leave I confess.
Oh come on let's , come on Eileen.

They were major druggies, this at least partially explains it.

So, the song is all about being randy, right?

You've heard the version that has the girl singing it? Same lyrics, just gives it an interesting twist.

Suprised the pron market didn't capitalize on the title of this song.
