Funded by Sun and Google (with research at Oxford and Harvard), the project Stop Badware aims to not only to eventually make tools to get rid of spyware, adware and whatnots, but also to expose the 'hidden crap' that acts like spyware or adware in legit programs....

stay tuned....like everything else google touches, this will likely turn to gold as well.
