I've got to buy one for my wife. Which ones are good, bad, overpriced etc? I can't believe I actually started a thread on breast pumps. :O :O :O

A pair of latex gloves and a mason jar worked for me.

You can milk anything with nipples.

Is she going to use it only a couple of times a day while she's at work or is it going to be a full time deal where she uses it every time because she can't get the kid to nurse?

I think she is gonna use it at night then have milk stored for the baby for when she is at school.

So, once a day? Get a manual one. No need to spend several hundred on an electric one.

We've used the same medela pump through 2 kids and it's still in good shape.

If you go manual, you'll probably spend about 70 bucks on the pump and a few extra bottles for storage. My guess is that she'll want to use it at school too, if she's going to be away from the kid during a feeding or two. The medela small battery powered job is NOISY.

If you're using avent bottles for feeding, you might consider getting an avent pump since the pump fits the bottle and you can pump right into those for storage.

this is a link to some breast pump information. For the love of boobies, don't skimp on the breast pump. Lots of places rent the nicer electric ones, and lots of insurance carriers will cover breast pumps, so look into that. The hospital where you took childbirth classes probably has a lactation consultant that can help you if you want to find a rental.
Good luck and all.

Heck, they'll offer good advice on pumps if you're looking to buy one too.

my wife tried a breat pump but she enjoyed having the baby attached to her. something about the bonding experience. She was only able to do it a short while.. just make sure your wife wants one.

That's the one the Soonerov's used. I would recommend it to anyone. Not real expensive, but it got the job done effectively. Make sure you get a double one no matter which brand you go with; it just makes the whole job so much easier.

I've only made 1 mistake so far. Accidentally looking down while I was holding her hand and feeding her ice chips while she was giving birth. All I can say is that I'm very, very glad I'm not a woman.

We are currently selling our Medela one that we used through two kids. Excellent model. We highly reccommend one. A couple wants to buy it, but if you are in Dallas and the sale falls through, I will discuss it with you. Let me know.

I am not having more kids. My wife might still have some more however. :D
