Um, I am so sorry I did not attend the University of Oklahoma there buddy. I have worked since the day I graduated High School to support myself and very shortly thereafter a family. I apologize if I didn't have the drive and desire to work my way through college. However, you will not tell me what University to root for and I am going to neg you everytime I have the chance. I love Oklahoma football as does my entire family. I think it's cool for anyone to root for OU. We can never have too many supporters of the University of Oklahoma.

What I find preposterous is when a non-alum tries to tell me I'm not an "OU fan" because I don't express my support in the same way Mr. Super Fan does. I had a super fan non-alum I worked with in 1990 upset with me because I didn't think Gary Gibb's mediocre team was going to beat the powerful Colorado squad. He kept coming back to me telling me I should be flying a Colorado flag. Of course I was right and we got whipped 20-3 I think. I blew an excellent opportunity to make money off this guy in a bet - but that would be stealing. This guy would have made the "Bearz" fans on Saturday Night Live blush.

The biggest OU fan I know went to OSU and never attended OU. He even hates OSU! I do not hate OSU. A lot of non-alum OU fans tell me I have to hate OSU to be an OU fan.

Root for your alma mater not mine. It's probably some JuCo or High School but that's fine. Be proud or yourself but don't try to be a Sooner if you do not have a diploma from OU.

Honestly, I can somewhat tolerate you non-OU-diploma-bearing-folks as long as you don't get a tattoo of the OU logo or the Sooner Schooner or anything else affiliated with my University.

Cheer for the Connors State Cowboys, the Duncan Demons, the OCCC Whatevers. Just not the Sooners.
Using that same logic, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish wouldn't have had that fanatical following they have to this day. In fact, it was those Notre Dame fans that did not attend the school who were called "subway alums," meaning those that did not go to ND but lived and died with the Fighting Irish. I know OU fans that didn't go to OU, too, but they were just as fanatical about the Sooners than had they actually gone to school there.
Every school has their "subway alums," OU included. I'll be the first to admit that I never graduated from OU. Or Tulsa, or any other school in Oklahoma. But to be restricted to following a team because you went to school there is a little preposterous. This is America and you have the right to choose any team or teams you so desire.
And I wouldn't want an OU (or any other team I follow) tattoo anyway. I don't do tattoos.

I think it's great to have pride in one's alma mater but this is going too far! Up until now I've always felt welcome around here but this is something that you would find on hornfans! Nah, never been cross-faced, and my head is still attached to my neck, so I've never been in a guillotine either. I have, however, skinned up my knuckles on the cheekbones/teeth/eyesockets/chin of many a spry opponent, and still bear the scars from many a parking lot tussle.

I may root for Ohio State next year. Depends on who wins the game between the Horns and them. I guess I'll make my decision at halftime of that game, and if the other team wins, I'll switch and pull for them until they lose.

But I never switch more than twice in one season. I started the 2005 season as a Sooner fan, but after they lost to TCU, I started pulling for the Horns. I never root for anyone from the West coast, except for Fresno State, and I won't pull for Notre Dame, but I like for my team to be consistently in the top 5 in the nation. I don't switch after one loss, and I limit my fandom to no more than 5 teams in a decade. Anything more than that is too wishy washy for me. I just like being part of a winning tradition, and when a team loses 4 games in a season, I just can't handle being tied to losses like that.

I still have a ton of OU hats and shirts, but I won't wear them again until OU beats Texas and goes to a BCS bowl.
