I think evil forces want me to be cold. I don't have my heater upstairs lit because well..i couldn't figure out how to lite the pilot lite myself and ONG wanted to charge me $35 to come light it in 60 days (the earliest they could come). Now my downstairs thermostat has gone out and i can't get it fixed til monday

I have a space heater..guess i'm gonna have to go buy firewood too.

I bet these two sentences have never been strung together before in the history of the English language.

Lighting the pilot isn't that hard . . .

no, but i followed the directions and it wouldn't lite.

and after my $285 ONG bill this month, i decided i could live with space heaters upstairs. but now the downstairs one won't work. the pilot lite is lit but the thermostat is broken.

If it hasn't been lit in a while it may take a bit for gas to get through the line.

Unplug the unit (heh)

Turn the valve to open up the line

Push the "light" button until you can hear or smell gas

Let things clear out a bit and then push the button again with a lighter in hand and light the thing.

If all goes well it should light (and not blow up). :D

ONG tried to charge us $329 this month. they were estimating, though. they, luckily, sent us a corrected bill for $179.

Call and ask ONG how much they charge someone to come and check around when they smell gas. If its free, then tell them you smell gas. While the serviceman is there, offer him some milk and cookies and mention that you cant afford to have your pilot light lite. ;)

Unbelievable that you two would turn something as innocent as milk and cookies into something sexual. Shame on ya! :D

Brat,

We're talkin' gas here. That stuff is dangerous to say the least.
If you haven't had your heating system inspected lately, PLEASE do so, even if you have to mortgage your fair white body to do so by hiring a private firm to do it NOW!
There are concerns re space heaters as well. Carbon monoxide and the danger of fire come to mind.
Dead people, whether they were gassed or have become Krispy Kritters(TM) ain't funny, unless they are Muslim Fundamentalists, o'course.
See PM.

So you can hear and smell the gas coming out of the line and it still won't light?

Hmmmm, I guess it's electric blanket time.

i'm definitely calling them monday. i think my bill is bogus. it was warm last month and i hardly ran the heater.

Yeah, our original "estimated" bill was "estimated" at around double our highest-usage month last year, when it was actually colder.
