WTF?????

last month it was $133 and i thought THAT was bad. I barely used the heater this month because it has been warm outside. My heat and water heater are the only 2 things that use ONG here.

mine was about $100 more than that

and if you have tried to call them about it you know the hold time is horrible...good luck. I think everyone is in the same boat.

I have the averaging so I do not have to pay that much but that is my actual usage charge.

I think you can call them to have it put on averaging before the due date. If mine is more than the $130 I paid last month, I'll do that.

I hope you're right SBSB

my average is USUALLY about $40

The natural gas companies have decided they're not going to just sit back and let the oil companies have all the fun. Your electric bill may be higher as well because of it.

soonerbrat
1/15/2006, 06:50 PM
my electric bill was actually lower this month than the past 3 months.

KC//CRIMSON
1/15/2006, 06:55 PM
they have been saying for months that this years winter gas bills are going to be the highest ever.

You can thank ONG and Hurricane Katrina and Rita

Mine's $329, and we were gone and had the heater set at 60 degrees for the last week of December. AND it's been 70 degrees outside. It jumped about 230 dollars from November's bill.

Oh, and the bill-averaging thing has no cutoff date. It was locking-in a fixed price for gas that cut off back in September. For the record: the fixed-price then: $8.50 per Dekatherm. Current price: $11.55

soonerbrat
1/15/2006, 07:08 PM
i think the dekatherm price is over $12 now.

1/15/2006, 07:24 PM
Isn't it lovely and just so you guys know Natural gas prices have fallen over 40% over the past couple weeks. Hope those of you that locked in your rate enjoy paying that outrageous price.

I recommend that you all hot tap the gas line before the meter and run you some tubing underground to supply your home. That'll show em ;)

Gee Whiz. Our combined gas and electric was $185, and we kept our house crazy warm for a few days while my grandparents were visiting. I think ONG is up to something sinister....

oumartin
1/15/2006, 09:16 PM
Just like all customers, most the money is made at the well head and ONG has to buy their gas on a month to month basis. they had to buy that high dollar gas as well. Like I said. the price has gone down alot so look for relief next month!

The big problem is that their hedging has run out. The gas prices were strange all year long. Normally we see a dip during the summer, and only now are we seeing the lower prices due to the warmer winter. The draw out of storage is very low right now, and it appears to me that we are headed for much lower gas prices. Don't expect to see it reflected in your bill until March though since the price only just now started dropping, and it is likely your bill that you just received was actually read in late December.

The only problem is that electric prices are primarily driven by natural gas prices. Watch for the FCA on your bill. You won't like it much.

IMHO, two things in the house are really best if gas.

Water heaters and cooktops. It may be in my head, but gas water heaters just seem to recover quicker and I likes me some instant heat gas cooktops and the fact you can really tweak the flame under whatever you're cooking.

How big is your house?

We keep our thermostat on 65 or so and the heat rarely kicks on, but if it gets too cold out I'll start a fire and get the girls some extra blankets. Luckily we're all pretty hot natured.

it's about 2100 sq. ft. i have 2 heaters, both gas, but the upstairs one isn't even lit. since it hasn't been cold, we've been using electric space heaters upstairs and lots of blankets upstairs. the only other thing that is gas is the water heater...electric stove and oven. so i don't know what the deal is..i haven't been using the heat that much.

Crank those heaters up people! I don't want to be having to pay for my parents' retirement.

When the gas bills went up in Jan 2001 (I think), in the memo field on my check I drew a hand giving the finger. It made me feel better. :D

One thing that might help is for us all to nut up and wear clothing indoors in winter. How did people get so pussified that they feel they must be able to comfortably wear just a t-shirt and shorts inside the house in wintertime anyway? I'm guilty of that too, but its actually pretty pathetic if you think about it.

Perhaps its just the way I was raised but we wore long pants and long-sleeved shirts INDOORS in the winter. The old man used to turn the heat off when we went to bed too. We had electric blankets on the beds so we stayed toasty all night. It could get a nipply come morning, but it was warm in the kitchen and we all split for school or work right after breakfast, so, the heat only ran from about 4 - 10pm.

just saying.

Go check your gas meter. The utility companies have been known to estimate your usage based on historical data because they do not have enough meter readers to get to all homes on a monthly basis.

Check all your filters. If any of them are dirty it will restrict the airflow making your furnace have to work harder and stay on longer meaning a much higher gas bill....this happened to me last year and I had an astronomical gas bill. I thought there was a leak somewhere it was so high. I replaced the filters and the next month it was not so bad.

If you have old windows, you can buy some cheap weather stripping that you just lay on the window sill?? The window closes down on top of it and helps somewhat....it's a cheap aid. Weather stripping for your doors is a good idea too.

soonerbrat
1/17/2006, 10:31 AM
i have a lot of windows and 7 doors that go to the outside. i have 2 balconies off my bedroom..daughter has a balcony, my son has double doors that lead to a patio...we have 2 back doors and a front door...plus big windows in the living room...i'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

i think i'll be moving soon anyway. moved here 2 years ago because my best friend lived next door...she moved out, so i have no reason to stay here..rent is too high anyway.

How could you complain about a high heating bill but not about having to replace the entire heating unit? That had to be some $$$$.

CO2 is carbon dioxide, the stuff you breathe out. what dry ice is made of. won't hurt ya unless it's in really high concentrations..like higher than O2 levels.

CO is carbon monoxide - will kill ya. it binds to hemoglobin and doesn't allow O2 to bind..that's why ya die.
