I've done a recreation of an old USSR WWII era propaganda stamp, was just wondering what it said on umm said stamp.
Hope it's not "die American Capitalist pig-dog!" or anything like that.

Ok--I emailed a guy. I'll see if he responds.

Funny thing is, I couldn't remember how to spell his last name so I looked for it on search.ou.edu, but i needed to make sure it was the right dude. So i just googled the name to see if anything about OU film and video popped up, and a hit for imdb.com was the third listing or so. and it wasn't just a coincidence--it's the same guy. talk about weird.

Its a 40 kopeck Soviet stamp. The banner says, "Our Red Army Soldiers Are So Tough They Bravely Guard Our Motherland Armed Only With Pool Cues: 1918-1949."

Mjcpr

See!!! It did say 40.

According to http://www.rustran.com/, it says:

"Sorry! Unable to translate now.
Try a few minutes later..."

Kinda weird to put on a stamp, don't you think?

I speak Russian. It basically says, "On guard for the peace of the world." Although the last word means labor or work, so it has the context to it, but it is not really translated into English without some difficulty.

Edit: My russian friend says the labor part is important and can't be taken out. Something more like "On guard of the peaceful work." Maybe better translated as: "We're working to make sure the world is safe."

Silly commies.

When I was in SAC, because we might be forced down over the USSR, they taught us enough Russkie to read signs and how to say "If you will help me my government will pay you." We taught ourselves to say "Don't Shoot! I Know Secrets!":D

I still wish I had gotten to pop a nuke over there. That would have been awesome.

Yes...it translates to "Whale's Vagina"

what the n00b said is pretty much right. Here's what the russian guy I know said: "the line in the stamp means ON POST (GUARD/WATCH) OF/FOR THE PEACEFUL LABOUR means that this soldier (the nation) are on guard." And apparently he has hundreds of russian stamps--collected them there and brought them with him when he came to this country.
