My Uncle Lester passed away this week and I will do his funeral on Wednesday in Hartshorne. He was a wonderful man and a true "country boy".

He once told me something I will never forget:

"I only like two kinds of pie. Hot and cold."

I've always enjoyed pecan. My mom used to have us gather apples and she would make the best apple pies. However, I will now live the rest of my life using jdsooners' uncle Lester's saying as my guiding light.

If I see pie on the table it usually goes in the first round. Forget the brown beef. While you're young you need to get what's yours. Just saying.

For the record, I just learned of this no "those who shall not be named" day thing. Insulting a "those who shall not be named" should not be a bad thing any day of the week though.

Ooh, ya, drop down, baby, let’s go to sleep, yeah
Drop down, mama, lay down, just dream of me
Well, my mama allow me
I fool around all night long
Well, I may look like I’m crazy
I should know right from wrong

See me comin’, throw your man out the door
Ain’t no stranger, done been this way before
See me comin’, mama, throw your man out the door
I ain’t no stranger, I been this way before

Put on your night shirt and your morning gown
You know by night I’m gonna shake ’em down
Put on your night shirt
Mama, and your morning gown
Well, you know by night i’m
Surely gonna shake ’em down
Shake it, shake it

Ooh, your custard pie, yeah, sweet and nice
When you cut it, mama, save me a slice
Your custard pie, yeah
I declare, it’s sweet and nice
Like your custard pie
When you cut it, mama
Mama, please save me a slice... oh

Chew on a piece of your custard pie
Chew on a piece of your custard pie
Chew on a piece of your custard pie
Chew on a piece of your custard pie

Drop down
Drop down
Drop down
Drop down
Drop down, yeah
Drop down
Drop down

Chew on a piece of your custard pie.

A good gooseberry pie is hard to beat! Surprised nobody has mentioned the old tried-and-true apple pie ala mode!

Here is a tip for you all: The next time that you are at Cracker Barrel, order the Apple Dumpling ala mode. It is incredibly good, and ample enough that it will serve two (or one person who still retains a hunger after eating your main meal). A delicious, plentiful dish, and the price is right: $2.99

People get stabbed at the Cracker Barrel in Tulsa.

Tulsan arrested after stabbing, police chase
By Staff Reports
1/11/2006

A woman was stabbed in the thigh Tuesday during an armed-robbery attempt that led to a police pursuit and the suspect's crashing a pickup near downtown.

Police arrested Dane Edward Stegner, 51, on complaints of armed robbery, eluding, driving under the influence and other traffic offenses.

The stabbing occurred about 2:30 p.m. outside the Cracker Barrel, 8008 E. 31st St., Sgt. Kim Presley said. A woman there told police officers that a man had threatened her and others with a knife.

When he didn't receive any money from the woman, he stabbed her in the thigh, police said.

The robber jumped into an older-model pickup and drove south on Memorial Drive before getting on the Broken Arrow Expressway and driving west.

Police pursued the pickup, which sideswiped another vehicle and then crashed into a concrete wall near the Houston Avenue exit on the Inner Dispersal Loop.

Stegner's nose was bloodied in the crash, but no one else was injured.

He was examined by EMSA medics at the scene before being interviewed at the Detective Division and then booked into the Tulsa Jail.

The woman who was stabbed also was examined by EMSA medics but refused transportation to a hospital.

Does a Denko Darlin count? I used to order mine "lookin at ya" with two fried eggs on top.

Not even sure if this place is still open - across the street from Inter-Urban in Norman. I was regular customer '83-'88.
