Damn ESPN... Who do you think the best Big-12 Team ever is?

...2000 Sooners?
..2005 LongHorns?
...2003 Sooners?
...97' Huskers?
...2004 Sooners?

Give logical reasons why.

2000 Sooners, best Defense the Big 12 has ever seen!

I dont think you can put 2003 Sooners on their when they didnt even win the conference...:(

2000 Sooners own all.

UT this year and Nebraska pre-Big12 come to mind....but I am gonna have to agree with the 2000 Sooners. Reason being...Offensive passing was crazy and the defense damn near made me shed a tear when they held the mighty CRIMINOLES to O points on Offense. I saw someone mention the other day that Peterson/Bomar was potentially the best Backfield at OU ever....but until proven otherwise, I am sticking with Heupel/Griffin. Quentin was no AD...but Rhett has gotta show me a WHOLE lot more to be on Josh's level.

Yeah I think 2003 OU has to be off. UT 05 was good but didn't have much competition from anyone else in the league. 2000 OU played several top 10 teams and won, not to mention the NC. I'd at least narrow down to NU 97 and OU 2000.

I can't wait to see what the answer to this will be in a couple of years.
Hmm will it be 2006 or 2007 Sooners...

2000 Sooners. Heupel's leadership made that team what it was. Plus the defense was insane when they shut out that FSU offense that averaged over 40 points per game.

But without Heupel, we lose at least 3 games.

I think the 2000 Sooners would have been more apt to take the necessary chances I didn't see SUC take to try and stop (at least slow down) VY. I think if OU 2000 played Saxet 2005 it'd be OU 23 Saxet 21.

some other Sooner backfields would have a lot to say about this...

On the original historical discussion...
1.) 2000 OU -I'll be a homer...Defense was ridiculous and Josh Almighty was a born winner
2.) 2005 Texas -or should I say 05 VY?
3.) 1997 Nebraska -Frosty the Quarterback and Dr. Tom...Columbia kick or not, these guys rolled through the year and the post season for a (shared) NC
4.) 2003 OU -I know, didn't even win the conference...but people weren't calling them the "greatest evar" for 3 months for nothing...everyone will naturally remember the collapse rather than the dominance
5.) 1998 KState - often forgotten...absolutely explosive offense behind Michael Bishop and Co. and bone jarring D. They ended up getting shafted outta the BCS and didn't bother to show up in San Antonio (similar to 03 OU)

I hate to tell you this, but Vince Young had more TDs, few INTs, and nearly the same number of yards passing this year compared to Heupel in 2000.

Also, the 2000 Q wasn't really anything special (other than the 6 TDs in Dallas:)).

2001 was better defensively then 2000. It's not even close.

97 Huskers
00 Sooners
03 Sooners
05 Horns
KSU team that lost to A&M(98 or 99)
04 Sooners

The 2000 Sooners played, by far, the toughest schedule of all those teams.

2000 Sooners - had to play UT, KSU and Nebbish in successive weeks, all were highly ranked. We pounded the horns, beat KSU at their place and beat a VERY good NU team at home!!! Played with heart every single game.

Then had to play the CCG in hostile territory, in the cold, and go against the criminoles for the MNC.

Sorry, but there's no way you can put the 03 Sooners ahead of this years saxeT team. There is no argument you can use to back that up.

1986 Sooners - I know it is pre Big XII, and they didn't win an NC, but they are still the best in my thinking.
At that time there were 107 D1 schools in football.
Through the regular season OU ranked 101st in passing offense in the Nation.
They ranked 1st in the Nation in Rushing Offense, Scoring Offense and Total Offense.
Also ranked 1st in the Nation in Rushing, Passing, Scoring and Total Defense.
They successfully stopped 1st and goal with no points given up against Texas, Nebraska, Colorado and OkieAggie.

2005 Longhorns = 2003 Longhorns - Cedric Benson

Score: OU 65 UT 13

Do you really think people would see Texas as the best BIG 12 team ever if they played top-ranked talent all season long??? What if, say the 2004 OU team did not graduate 16 seniors and OU whooped their asses again???

UT 2005 had a great run, and I'd say this any day...
1. 2000 OU (RRS = 63-14 OU walks with 49 pts on good UT team)
2. 2003 OU (had they finished correctly, BIG 12 title was a fluke, and 2004 K-State game proved it, one touchdown pass dropped gives LSU the win)
3. UT 2005 I don't hate them, I just don't think a team who nearly gets beat by the faggies-- in their worst season, should own the top-spot. Great team, but not perfect (RRS = 45-12 UT over weakened, injured, inexperienced, young OU team).

Remember VY was a freshman in that game. Also, Chance Mock had comparable talent to VY in that game. Both played and both played poorly.

2000 OU played and beat 5 top 10 teams. Beat them by an average of 17 points.

The Big XII that year was on FIRE too.

2001 defense was so good it was fun to watch. They didn't lose games because of defense. They lost games because they weren't good on offense. 2000 team was better. But the 01 D gave up like 13 points a game. And if you take out the one down game it had against KSU giving up 37 they gave up 11 points a game.

Good lawd, I'm glad someone remembers how great we were in '86. I think we had a 5 game stretch where the OU D gave up 6 points. That's just sick.

It is mind boggling that you can actually place a team that lost 2 games, including a 28 point drubbing by Kansas State, over a team that went 13-0 and beat 2 top 4 teams in the process, one of which had 2 Heisman trophy winners in their backfield. Talk about homer-ism.

There is one, and exactly one, Big XII era Sooner team that can be mentioned as being equal or greater to UT 2005...and that's the 2000 squad. None of the others went undefeated, none of the others won national titles, none of the others beat 2 teams who finished the season in the top 4.

And any argument of a "weak 2005 Big XII" contributing to UT 2005's success is bogus--given that the Big XII ended up tied for the best winning percentage in bowl games this season.
