Question for our resident Horn fans.

What's the scoop on Colt McCoy? Where is he from? Highly recruited? Drop-back passer or more of a run-pass guy?

THANKS,
Boones

He's a little young, but he could be a stud later.

One of the state's all time leader in passing yards. Decent mobility but played at a very small school in West Texas called Jim Ned. He was a 4 yr. starter there. Look for Jevan Snead to push for the starting position early on. He was florida's first choice over Tim Tebo.

From what I can tell, awesome first name, solid last name.

Could use some work on a middle name, or a suffix.

Not very highly rated but apparently a smart guy with a good arm. Probably would have been a bigger prospect if he wasn't so small and played higher than 2A ball.

Nobody knows how much I like to : Hunt and fish
Favorite TV show: Sportscenter, Seinfeld

He likes gladiator movies, Troy Aikman, and he's into AC/DC, should fit right in there in Gaystin.

Also, note that he can't live without food. Pretty bright, too.

Well unless he gets a medical redshirt fort he next 35 years, and stays in good shape he might pull it off.

McCoy committed before Perrilloux did. Mack offered him over Chase Daniel. Yes, he obviously wanted Perrilloux more (but I think we can all agree Texas got lucky not to get him), but it's not like he went to get him late after it became clear that Perrilloux was going to LSU.

I was in Abilene and saw three of his games and to sum up his career. His dad called plays that either highlighted him or his little brother (then a WR) and he never faced one Div 1 pass rusher, 1 Div 1 linebacker, 1 Div 1 DB and never saw defensive schemes like like he'll see if he starts next year. lets see how good the texASS head coach, OC and O-line is with out a once in a life time athlete who caught lighting in a bottle as a QB.

to answer your question he is more moblie than major less of a passer than chrissy sims.

good luck

This is clearly the exception to the rule but I can think of kids out of places such as Hooks, Tuttle, or Palestine that turned out decent for us. I'll reserve judgment and consider him a threat until he's spitting grass in the Cotton Bowl.

Medical redshirt for the next 35 years you say? Well, it ain't that one's never been done before, right? Right?

Speaking of Perrilloux, any word on how he is doing? From all I have heard it seems he is buried pretty deep by some of the talent that was there when he arrived. Is he a transfer or a career bench jockey?

McCoy is a drop back passer with marginal scrambling ability. He apparently got on fairly well in practice, but I don't think he's going to last more than 2 or 3 games before Snead takes over. Snead is a hell of QB. Better passer than Vince by far at the HS level. More all around talent and experience against top competition than McCoy. A good scrambler and playmaker. I don't think Florida picked Snead over Tebow. I think Snead saw the writing on the wall at Florida and that Tebow was going to be the man. So, he made a logical switch to his No. 2 choice. I am betting he comes in with a chip on his shoulder and shows up as the starter just in time for the RRS. We probably lose it based on inexperience at QB, but I think Snead will get us back to respectability by the end of the year.

Holiday Bowl if we're lucky.

Billy Sims and Jeremiah Trotter came from Hooks! I never count those small towners out. AD went to PHS with my cousin. Never thought he'd be on TV for the Sooners!

I watched him play in a scrimmage in the beginning of our year. He's a big kid, tall and strong and pretty-solid looking. He is a little quicker than you might think, and he has a quick release. He got the ball nicely down the field, but there weren't any WOW plays. It was hard to tell too much, but he was better than our old backup. Definitely less than Young (who isn't?) but he did move the ball a little. How's that for a non-definitive answer?

Saw some of the Army AA game on Saturday, and Snead looked OK, threw a TD pass to his soon-to-be future teammate. Question is whether he'll be able to pick up the offense that quickly, since he won't be in Spring practice.

At least Palestine is a 4A highschool. Still some good competition there.
