Power play goals were the name of the game tonight as the No. 17 University of Oklahoma® Hockey club lost 4-2 to the No. 7 Weber State University Wildcats in Oklahoma City. Despite pounding the Wildcat net with 15 official shots on goal, the Sooners did not score in the first period. Neither did Weber State and the game remained deadlocked at 0 after twenty minutes of play. In the second period, Weber State’s impressive power play got the scoring started in the first minute of play. At 5:04 of the second period, Sooners forward Justin Hall scored on the power play when he tipped a Kelly Forbes pass into the net to tie the game at 1-1. Just a bit over three minutes later, OU forward Shawn Webber scored on the power play to put the Sooners up 2-1. But Weber State’s power play would not be denied tonight as the Wildcats scored two more goals on the man advantage to lead 3-2 at the end of 40 minutes of action. Weber State added another power play goal in the third period and shut the Sooners down thereafter to beat OU by a score of 4-2. All of tonight’s goals were scored on the man advantage. Weber State was an incredibly efficient 4 for 6 on the power play while OU’s power play was 2 for 9 tonight. Sooners goaltender Aaron Schmeilski stopped 17 of the 21 Weber State shots he faced while Wildcats goaltender Kyle Gover stopped 39 of the 41 OU shots he faced.

The loss drops OU’s record to 11-8-2 while Weber State improves to 15-4-1. The Sooners will seek to split the weekend with the Wildcats as they host Weber State again Saturday at 7:30 P.M. at Blazers Ice Centre.
