we are trying our best to nab malcolm williams away from texas a&m. if we were successful (longshot as we have never snagged a commit from them, but they have nabbed 3 from us), it would put our secondary targets as follows...

CB
6'1
6'0
6'1

S
6'0
5'10

JD Runnels?

Are we really still after this guy after Carter and Tabon committed? Where on earth would his scholarship come from?

I'd rather give one of our few schollys left to one of the other players we are after. But hell, if he wants to come then let him come.

I hope we do. Then we need McCoy, Gresham, and MURRAY. Maybe Ian Symonette to cap it off?

we need a TE, a running back, and a guard. the TE doesn't have to be gresham. the guard doesn't have to be a recruit. the running back does need to be a scat back though.

Aren't we the supposed leaders for Murray? He's a scat-back kind of guy isn't he?

yep and yep.

Other than Gresham, I don't know of any other TEs on the radar with offers.

I'd still like to know exactly how many ships are left. If the coaches tell Gibbs to take a hike, it seems like that would only give us four to take the remaining 6 or 7 guys they want. Makes me really worry about Patterson and Tennel...

the guard doesn't have to be a recruit.

Are you talking about BK?

I was thinking more like Blackard, not sure what jkm meant though.

no, more that we could shuffle some DL around if we can find a DL guy to replace them.

How about Derrick Strait? Was he a similar story?

jkm, the stolen pifwafwi

strait was small. i just think its ironic that we are going after short safeties and tall corners...

Harry Beanbag

Are they still using the Mike Stoops DB recruiting strategy?

NickZeppelin

I think Strait was recruited as a WR and I think Texas was recruiting him but they didn't think he would qualify or something. I can't remember the exact details of his recruitment because it was 6 or 7 years ago.

Strait was a top 25 recruit in Texas. Texas didnt think he would quailify so they passed. He probably would have been a horn had they not passed on him. Cox may end up being a guy like Strait

actually he was 60, but who cares ;)

I think Rivals had him at 21 or so. Look at that list the top 20 didn't do much.

I was looking at Soonersports.com to see if any of the DT's had put on some weight they have C Moore listed at 6-4 320. rivals has him listed at 6-4 264. could he really put on 60 lbs in a year? and would he a Blackard be moved?

We are so log jammed at DT and DE it is crazy.

It would be a big mistake to move Blackard to OL. He has a lot of heart and is a great reactive player but he isn't savvy enough to remember the plays on OL.

They may have him on one of those 6K calorie a day diets, I knew someone who went from 210- 285 through a redshirt and up until next spring at Tulsa.

They make you eat... and lift...

Tabon projects to S in college and Williams to CB.

CB Dominique Franks 6'0 Low 4 Star
CB Jonathan Nelson 6'1 Low 4 Star
CB Malcolm Williams 5'10 Low 4 Star

S Daniel Tabon 6'3 High 3 Star
S Quinton Carter 6'0 Mid 3 Star

if tabon is 215 right now, he isn't playing safety in college, he's a middle linebacker.

NormanPride
1/27/2006, 10:54 AM
Well, it would depend on his frame, right? I mean, if he's a late bloomer then he's a mike definitely. But if he's already filled out a lot, safety might not be a bad idea.

Steve Atwater, Roy Williams, SS can play at 230 these days... Who was the guy from Miami now a redskin? Sean Taylor just remembered. .

Why not have a guy 225/230 runs a 4.5 killing people with a 5 step head start...

TGRW was 190 when he walked on the OU campus. if you follow recruiting, the only guys that aren't going to gain weight are classified as a "lean body type" (think zach latimer). those guys will weigh about 5 lbs more when they graduate than they do now. most other linebackers will gain 20% of their current body weight as they get the upper body mass to take the punishment.

NormanPride

Kind of off subject, but do you think Smith will grow into his safety role? Assuming the coaches don't move him to corner. ;)

And I hate projecting weight. I would imagine it's one of the more aggravating things about recruiting...
