I would like to seek the help of the members of this board in gaining recognition for a former Sooner who deserves to be in the College Football Hall of Fame. The Sooner, is Carl McAdams, one of the greatest linebackers to wear the crimson and cream. Here is a list of his accomplishments:
Linebacker/Center - 6'3, 215
Born: April 26, 1944
High School: White Deer, Texas
Years at Oklahoma: 1963-1965
Overall Record at Oklahoma: 17-13-1
Honors at Oklahoma:
All-American - 1965 & 1964
All-Big Eight Conference - 1965 & 1964
Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year - 1965
Gator Bowl MVP - 1964
UPI Big Eight Lineman of the Year - 1964
Pro Draft:
St. Louis Cardinals - 1st round, New York Jets - 3rd
Pro Career:
New York Jets, 1966-69
Super Bowl III Champions, 1968

In addition to the honors listed above, Carl, in going head to head, against College Hall of Famer Tommy Nobis from U of Texas, was twice named as AP National Lineman of the Week for his performances against the Nobis-led Longhorns in 1964 and 1965, both Sooner losses.

He was also selected to the 25th Anniversary Kodak All American Team in 1985.

Here's how you can help.
1-Copy and paste this on any Sooner message boards that you are a member of. I only post on this board.
2-Send an email to Ken Mossmann requesting that Carl be giving a push for CHOF consideration by the OU Sports information department. His email is

McAdams was a great one. They used to say, at that time, "playing without McAdams at linebacker would be like playing hockey without a goalie." He could move and he was a hitter.

Just want to keep this post up there to enlist as much help as possible from the Sooner fans.

Carl's biggest problem was that he played in an era when OU football was "down". Gomer Jones had been a great assistant coach but couldn't make the transition to head coach.

Again, I appreciate your help. Carl is a good friend of mine and a fine man.

He has raised a fine family down in southeastern Oklahoma and his 3 sons have all turned out to be fine men. Joe played at Tulsa and owns the State Farm Agency in Ardmore, Mack who played at West Texas State and East Centeral U. is a high school coach in Texas and Jay who was a star basketball player at East Central U. is the Superintendent of Schools at Kingston.

Carl was the 1st round draft choice of the St. Louis Cardinals (8th overall selection) but was selected by the Jets in the 3rd round in 1966. He chose to go with the Jets, not for the money, but because he liked Weeb Eubank. It proved to be a good choice as he was a member of the Joe Namath led Super Bowl III Champion New York Jets.

Another player that definitely should be in the hall is Clendon Thomas , but now as of this yr has gone to long without be inducted so he's no longer eligible- that just isn't right.
Add the Boz to the list to.2 time Butkus award winner.
