Great stinkin program. I cant wait to own an IPOD that has video ability. Anyone want to buy my 40gig? :)

Plus, you can download all the Lost eppisodes to your Ipod for 1.99. Crazy.

I'm always afraid to upgrade to the new itunes because I'm afraid ths next one will be the one that can tell which of these songs I've purchased, and which I've "purchased".

Who knew, with their superior hardware and all, that they'd back their way into the lead with a gadget that plays music?

LOL, GLAD MY MOUTH FULL OF FRIED CHICKEN HIT THE FLOOR THAT TIME!!

why does my ipod go to the black apple screen when I start it after I haven't played with it in a while?

I'm pretty sure they all do that.

There are a couple of different levels of stand by.

Sort of stand by and the kind that requires a reboot.

The second one is after a certain period of inactive time.

Yeah, happens after being off for so long. Mine does it.

Nah. I don't have one either.

So if it's been off for a while you get a black screen? Hmm.

Well, the brand new one can play videos. The battery will only last about 3 hours but...

The one I have (and Jed has) is the 60GB one. Holds 5,000 songs and pictures. If you want to be able to listen to anything at any time - buy this one.

If you want to carry less music around and shuffle it from your PC to your iPod get a smaller one. The Nanos are tiny, lightweight and have a color screen like ours does.

It just depends on how you will use it. Go out to apple.com and check out the technical descriptions for each widget.

But be careful - that place is like crack.com. You're likely to spend a lot of money...

Thanks. Since I'm not into videos I think I'll get a Nano.

beware the nano. I would let them get the bugs worked out before buying one. Last I heard, they were having major problems with the LCD going out, cracking etc...

Also, if you get one, get the protective skin that you can apply or a holder or it will get hella scratched quickly. Other than that, it's sweet. Small and flash.

The stats I read said that the screen issues were in only about 1/10th of a percent which isn't that big a deal.

They don't scratch any easier than the other iPods and they're made from the same material. The black ones just look like they scratch worse.

They are surprisingly durable much moreso than their hard drive counter parts. Just treat it like any other electronic device that fits in your pocket and you'll be fine.

We placed the nano in the path of the car and drove over it with both front and rear tires. Driving over the nano produced sickening crunching noises which coincidentally sounded a lot like an LCD being crushed. After the first hit and run, the iPod's display was not cracked but was showing some nasty vertical lines. Shockingly, the nano was still playing music and the controls still operated as expected, as we were still able to skip ahead, go back, pause, and play music!

these relatively old engadget entries are what my comments are based on. The fact that they're flash is nice, but I rarely buy first generation anything any more.

BE WARNED

Murphy's law will strike within 60 days of your purchase of any iPod product. The line you invest in will be scrapped in lieu of one half the size and 3/4 the price.

If you buy accessories with your iPod, this window will be 30 days.

At least, it happened to me.

anyone wanna buy a mini? :)

You're probably wise. I remember when the iPod mini came out, they had issues with the solder breaking on the headphone plug. Within a few weeks, they identified the problem and fixed it.

That's the price you pay for being an early adopter.

My thinking is that if you're concerned about quality control, you should wait for a few weeks/months to buy.

My ipod (a 20gig b/w screen one) has scratches all over it because I listen when I mow the lawn and it's always getting scratched in my backpack and/or briefcase. But that doesn't bother me.

I guess that first scratch was a little off-putting because I liked to stare at it a lot, but now I just listen and don't look at it very much.

The video one is the only one they make now. The "photo" one has been discontinued and the one with video is just known as iPod. In a side by side comparison with the older generation iPods, the new one is actually smaller, just has a bigger screen.

So, you've got 3 choices.

iPod
iPod Nano
iPod Shuffle

but I didn't think the Video one was out yet. I could be wrong though.

and w/o a doubt the Nano and Shuffle don't even BEGIN to hold my tunes. NEED MORE SPACE!

You know the plastic protector an iPod has on the click wheel when you first buy it?

Yeah, well...I still haven't taken mine off. I don't want it getting all dirty and stuff.

Although, new ones aren't that much more. You can probably find some good deals on eBay for unopened ones.

$50 more bucks for 10 more gigs. I don't need the video, but I would pay the difference for the added space.

It might be out of your price ranges, but I had $150 at least in mind for mine. Its 40 flippin gigs. If I cant get at least that much out of it, Ill just keep it...I listen to it daily. $50-75 would be a STEAL

BTW, the inbox is free..

I was referring to the difference between the ad for a 20 gig photo and a new 30 gig video that beano had posted.

249 for the 20g photo
299 for the 30g video

yeah, I realize that. Which is why I'd rather get the 30 than the 20, for not much more $$$.

The new "Just for You" feature rocks out with its **** out. It's taking over my life.

I'm listening to Talking Book by Stevie Wonder right now. Why? Because iTunes knew I'd like it and it's something I've meant to buy forever. After that, I've got the 12" dub remix of Buffalo Soldier.
