I'm afraid your Detroit Tigers just set themselves back another five years.

Now Trammell can go manage another team into the playoffs for consecutive seasons like his predecessor Garner.

I always wished Trammel and Whitaker were Yankees.

Is Leyland that much of an improvement over Trammell? Going from a 47 year old to a 60 year old who hasn't managed in 6 years is kind of odd for a "rebuilding" team.

I think Dombrowski is looking at the fact that Leyland brings winning experience with him...Trammell was a gamble as an unknown as a manager as he was hired after being a hitting coach..Tigers have a good core, it's whether or not they can get everything moving in the right direction....I like management expected them to be a club that hovered closer to a 79-83 record than a 71-91

Tram probably took them as far as he could. We'll see what Leyland has left.

Garner lucked into a great situation in Houston. He had more talent than he clearly had at Detroit or Milwaukee, and the fact that he was a former Astro and fan favorite didn't hurt, either.
Trammell doesn't have that going for him, considering the Tigers were the only team he played for in his career.

I didn't know Leyland was still alive.
