No ****.

I have 3 tattoos, and I would never have let anyone touch me before looking at a lot of work they had done. Amazingly ignorant folks out there.

I'm kinda surpised there are no neck tattoos. People who get those pretty much consign themselves to a life of either A) rock stardom or B) minimum wage hourly work. Note: B is far more common than A. Displayed mathematically B>A. Put another way, neck tats are what happens when you forget to remember they're always a bad idea.

Neck tats...just say no.

there's a girl who works for me, really cute, young and smart, but in her crazy days she put a tattoo on the back of her neck....

she hates the thing now and wants to have it removed...

The one's the owner can cover with their hair aren't so bad. It's those big honkin' ones that cover the whole side of the neck that are career limiting.

This one looks like it was probably done to cover up some chick's name. I doubt many people ask for "...an American flag, you know, but square...with a superfluous hazy black border..."

EDIT: Although now I notice that the white stripes are skin tone, so there can't really be an old tat underneath. That's just one sick flag tattoo, man.

It's the best one in this thread. At least it can be explained away as "well it's SUPPOSED to look stupid."

At the game, I sat next to a nice, respectable, professional-looking Sooner couple and their beautiful little girl.

Then I saw the guy's tattoo. It showed a dead guy executed by hanging with blood pouring out of his neck. Blech. I'll bet now that he has a little girl, he's regretting that decision.

Gee, I didn't give my tattoos much thought either.

Like posting on a message board with a chick while getting her user name tattooed on my butt. She was impressed for about five minutes and then she didn't believe me. We met up last year in real life and I got to show her I wasn't lying. A few months later she changed her user name. Heh!

The real prob, I think, was inviting a tattoo artist to my parties.

Don't do that!

Has there ever been a tattoo in all of history that wasn't regretted at some point?

I would have to say 'yes'. Unless you're talking about the folks that show up and pick something off of the wall in the tattoo parlor.

I have never regretted any of my tattoos, including the tattoo with the name of the poster who changed her user nic.

They are all a part of me and my journey.

It's still responsible to warn people that skin art is permanent.

Guys and gals, listen up, it's permanent.

Great thread.

My personal pet peeve are white and black people - folks who don't even know the Japanese word for 'raw fish' - who get kanji tattoos. Extremely geeky.....almost as bad as white guys in jimbeis. Don't!

http://www.cottage13.com/Tattoo/Andrew/Graphics/kanjiLeftArm.jpg

I've noticed countless times people in Asia wearing goofy clothing that they don't fully understand. Old women in my office wearing 'SIZE QUEEN' blouses and little girls wearing 'THINK TESTICLES' sweatshirts.

Now..if a non-English speaking saleswoman in Ginza sales a SIZE QUEEN blouse, what makes you think Johnny Rodriguez at the Amarillo tattoo shop is really going to know the difference between 'warrior' and 'bicycle seat' in kanji?

IF YOU CAN'T READ IT, DON'T GET IT!!!

I wonder how much it would cost to have 'Think Testicles' tattooed across my chest in katakana? You know....tattoes are so cool now.

The funniest thing about that tattoo is that Mario, a Nintendo character, is part of it.

I must say, though, the character sprites look great, just like you'd see on the screen. That kind of thing would be tough to draw on a surface that wasn't perfectly flat.
