I posted on here awhile back that my wife and I were building a new House. I have a few Photo's of our progress for the last month. we are doing alot of the work ourselves at this point, I plan on turning it over to the framers in a week or so.

The Footers are dug.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/arkiejeff/IMG_1469.jpg

The Footers are poured and we're ready for the block.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/arkiejeff/IMG_1472.jpg

The Main slab is being poured the plumbing is roughed in.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/arkiejeff/IMG_1477.jpg

Finish concrete man doing his thing!

We now have to dig the footers for the porch and courtyard and prep it for a Monolithic pour.

Thats it for now! :)

Something amiss here. Hmmm...Thats it! There are no beers in any of these pics. How can you expect a first rate job accomplished without any beer?

construction is the last bastion of political incorrectness. the studs under the headers are shorter than the others and are thus called "cripple". I didn't name em, and nobody else calls them anything but cripple studs, so what can you do?

Geez, before long I will smart enough to apply for a job at Andy's company.

If all of those openings are doorways or full-length windows, there wouldn't be any cripple studs, right? See, I AM learning.

Looking good Boogercounty, I see possibilities of a wrap around porch? BTW where is Boogercounty exactly?

On to lesson 2.

In a textbook, they would call item B a cripple stud and item E a jack stud. Unfortunately, many of us construction workers have limited vocabulary and nobody (around here at least) really calls it a jack stud. You don't necessarily need cripples, but you're in trouble if you're missing the jacks.

BajaOklahoma
10/21/2005, 12:12 AM
So the closer view of the framing - looks like one of the headers has a jack stud (instead of the usual two). :D
I am going to drive the framers crazy if we ever get to build our new house. I left a note on the framing for the first house we built - they omitted the window in a bedroom. It was fixed the next time we were at the site. I figured it saved everybody time and money in the long run.

There is a covered porch that goes all the way across the front and 36 feet down each side. There is also a 36X25 courtyard that is patially covered. Booger County is Madison county, Arkansas just east of the Fayettville, Springdale area!

I always called them Trimmers. And, if they didn't plan for it, all the frames will be 3" too small after adding them. Hoo boy, someone's gonna be mad.
