Since most high school football teams start their seasons later this week (although some in Texas started theirs last week), I think we should have a high school football thread for the 2005 campaign. We can talk about Oklahoma high school football, games involving OU recruits, out-of-state high school games, etc.
So let's start with your predictions for Oklahoma state champions. I'll start with mine:
6A-Tulsa Union
5A-Tulsa Washington
4A-Clinton
3A-Eufaula
2A-OC Millwood
A-Tonkawa
B-Weleetka
C-Shattuck

The Rams put up 382 yards of offense in a season-opening win over the Falcons. Alex Daniels scored three touchdowns for the Rams, including an 87-yard scoring run in the first quarter. The Rams started the rout with a 73-yard punt return by Trevor Maldon.

Quarterback Ryan Burciaga threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the win

Now if only we can keep it up all season.....

That's the trick.
BTW, how is the Detroit HSFB scene shaping up this year?

That's the trick.
BTW, how is the Detroit HSFB scene shaping up this year?

Probably the same as it always will....the high school across the street (which cheats) will probably win it's division. Catholic Central will once again win the psl because they cheat ;) And the games at Ford Field will be won by teams that cheat....

Can you tell I don't care much about HS football here? :D

Radford is in Hawaii, and has struggled to have a winning season most years since I graduated, then again, when I went there we went to the playoffs twice in 4 years, and my freshman year we were 2 plays from being in the state championship against the cheating private schools there.

There was a quarterback from Van Buren, Ark., two years ago whose last name was Funmaker. Apparently, he didn't live up to that name as his team went 0-10.

I guess you have to be from the city or actually live in the city to understand.
My town's the same way, our two main high schools are Northside and Southside, and that's what we call them. But those outside our city use the city name first, then Northside or Southside.

Went to go see my old high school play tonight. Holy hell it was ugly. Somehow they only lost 20-17 (to Round Rock, not a good team), but get a load of this...

Bowie (0-1) was first to pay, as a punt snap sailed over Kevin Jones' head and he managed to punt from his 5-yard line to the 15, still a minus-27 yard punt in the books for a team facing fourth down from their 42.

On the Bulldogs' next possession, another high snap resulted in another 34 yards of lost field position, giving the Dragons possession at the Bowie 14.

The Bowie kicking game broke down again in the third quarter when a punt bounced off Matt Lichtenberger's shoulder pads and into the arms of Zack Pate for the Dragons at the Round Rock 42.

Bowie lost a combined 141 yards of field position on penalties and bad punt tries, while Round Rock gave back 97 yards to penalties and wayward snaps.

Also had two missed field goals. Geez. Don't they practice special teams anymore?

Ryan Burciaga threw for 175 yards and a touchdown and the Rams shut out the Marauders.

Burciaga also led Radford with 37 yards and a touchdown on the ground in the blowout as the Rams scored four times before halftime.

The Rams limited the Marauders to just 2 yards rushing and 11 yards passing in the shutout.

we've now outscored 3 opponents this season 118-32...

Best team on the eastern side of Oklahoma this year may be the Vian Wolverines. They went to 6-0 with a 62-0 win over Panama. It is the fourth time this year they have posted a shutout while scoring 60 points or more. Halfback Vfastv Locust scored seven touchdowns, a week after scoring five against Gore. One of those TD's this evening was a 99-yard run.
Hilldale Hornets also 6-0 after beating Broken Bow in OT 17-10. Second place in 4A-4 up for grabs with Poteau, Sallisaw, Fort Gibson and Okmulgee battling it out.
Surprise team in the region might be the Stigler Panthers. They beat Antlers 12-7 to improve to 3-0, tied for first in District 2A-8 with Hartshorne. Heh, I just found out, if you type Harts-horn-e, you get a Horn logo.

Radford loses their regular season finale in a rainstorm 18-13 to Campbell creating a 3 way tie for first between Radford, Campbell, and Moanalua

Scott D
10/29/2005, 11:35 AM
Radford bounces back to beat Campbell, 7-0

Fate had it that Radford and Campbell would play on consecutive weeks.

Fate also had it that Radford would win this time, 7-0.

The O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference semifinals last night was a defensive stalemate that turned on two plays late in the game.

Campbell had a third-and-three at its 44. Quarterback Obe Mataio dropped back to pass and was stripped by Radford defensive end Vasa Kuresa. The ball rolled backward and was recovered by linebacker Bronson Leafa at the 25.

"It was just guys stepping up," Radford coach Fred Salanoa said. "It was a defensive struggle tonight. Our defense played the game they were taught to do and guys stepped it up and that's what it's all about."

On the next play, Radford running back Alex Daniels burst up the middle for a touchdown with 5:54 remaining in the game.

"Just a regular run play, zone read," Salanoa said. "The cut back was there all night, we just needed to find it. We finally found it and that's all that matters."

On Campbell's final possession, it had a first-and-10 at its 45, but two sacks and two incompletions ended the drama.

Radford (7-2) will play Moanalua in the OIA White final Nov. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at Aloha Stadium. The Menehunes beat Kaiser, 15-10, last night.

On Campbell's 14 possessions, it had six punts, three lost fumbles, one missed field goal, and lost the ball four times on downs.

"Hats off to Radford," Campbell coach Tumoana Kenessey said. "It was a defensive battle and this is what we play for. Keep the game close and the ball went their way and the game went their way. They made the play when they had to. They executed when they had to."

In the teams' regular-season finale last week, Campbell (7-2) beat Radford, 18-13.

That forced a three-way tie for first in the OIA White, and a coin flip determined seedings for the tournament.

Playing the same team back-to-back didn't sit well with Kenessey.

"You play a team and you play them right after that," he said. "That don't make sense."

Would love for Ron Lancaster to get one more shot at the Gold Ball before calling it a career. I knew him when he was the coach at Sallisaw and while most people will admit to a love-hate relationship with the man, I can say that we got along pretty good and he treated me professionally and with respect. If Lancaster's team wins next week, then all of his teams that he has coached (Enid, Jenks, Sallisaw and the school he coached in California back in the '70s) has played in at least the state championship game. Sallisaw thus far is the only place he's been where he didn't win it all, but did take the Black Diamonds to the 4A finals in 2000 and again a year later.

Went to Vian tonight to see the undefeated Wolverines, who moved to 12-0 after demolishing Woodland, 69-7. Halfback Vfastv Locust rushed for nearly 300 yards and scored five TD's. He's now four touchdowns away from tying the state record for most TD's in a season. Vian had over 600 yards rushing tonight and they also scored nearly as many points in the fourth quarter (34) than they did the first three quarters combined (35).
Next Saturday, it will be a battle of unbeatens as Vian faces 12-0 Rush Springs. Don't think there will be any easy games for Vian the rest of the way.

In other news, supposedly that little chicken **** QB from Shawnee, Tucker Brown, was ejected from the game against Booker T last night. According to OSSAA rules, ejection means an automatic two game suspension.

Couldn't happen to a nicer primadonna.

It would be cool if you knew what you were talking about. Different, but cool.

With 19 seconds left in the game, our offense was running out the clock when the guy decided to jump offside and grab our star QB by the facemask and sling him down to the ground.

Our kid jumped up and kicked a BTW player and they both got ejected. If you get ejected for unsportsman-like conduct, you're out two games.

I hate that our kid jumped up and retaliated, but seriously who jumps offside to sling a QB down to the ground when they're running out the clock?

Don't know where you are getting he's a prima donna, but you should probably stick to other things than bad-mouthing HS kids.

Radford wins 9-7 to get a first round bye in the Division II State Championship Playoffs. They win the OIA White Championship, and will play the Kauai vs. Kamehameha-Maui winner in two weeks.

Is Mililani and Kahuku still good?

When you're jawing and talking a whole lot of smack when you're down 34-0 at home to the best team in the state, you're a prima donna. Every time he'd make any kind of play you'd see his head bobbing up and down. Our guys talked about it after the game and kinda chuckled. He'd be a good fit at Miami.

As for this:

That's easy: Booker T. They've always been dicks.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but next year all the districts are being changed. http://www.ossaa.com/classifications/new_fb_districts.pdf I really dont like it because I go to Del City and now we must play all the tulsa area schools when before we played metro area teams. Take off Edmond North and the shortest away game is stillwater which takes around an hour and a half to get to.

I have no doubt you follow Oklahoma HS football closer than most/all. Especially Ardmore, since you're a native son.

But his attitude has been verified by others? Did you take a recent poll or survey? Did you ask every member of every other team about Tucker Brown? Or just a select few?

Doubtful. It's more likely you either talked to Ardmore players who played against him or from fans of teams who played against him.

Did you talk to his pastor? His mother? Teachers? Friends? Neighbors? No, you got some information from someone who maybe saw him in one aspect of his life, football.

Either or, my main point is that trashing a HS kid that you don't know is kind of immature.

If someone judged you based only on your internet responses, they'd probably judge you as a prima donna. You're cocky, arrogant and boastful of your accomplishments in a lot of your past posts.

These are all things I actually like about your internet persona. But others may see that as being high and mighty. Yet they don't know a thing about you except for one small facet of you.

He's probably done for the season, and it's because of a dumb mistake on his part. I just don't see the need to trash a kid who can't even vote.

Nice post, Micco.

I do a lot of browsing on coachesaid.com, and a lot of kids from the state football teams post on there. They have a forum for 5A football on there and right after the incident occurred the floodgates opened with kids from all over the state saying that this was long overdue and that the kid had it coming.

What I saw last night on Channel 9, they had the replay, was a kid from Booker T trying to be an idiotic hero and leap the pile to force a botched snap. Brown got up, kicked the kid, and then backpedaled with his arms up in the air as if to say, "What did I do?".

They had his Dad on for an interview and he blamed the whole incident on Booker T and basically implied his son was blameless, even though it was his boy who let loose the kick. Blevins got back on camera and said, "Well, there's two sides to every story."

The OSSAA did uphold the suspension, from what I understand.

Cool. I hate that it happened, but if you retaliate you are just as guilty as the guy who started it.

Lucky break for your Ardmore Tigers. With Tucker gone, you may have a chance at the title. :D

This is Oklahoma, Micco, and you and I both know how deep grudges can run. Here's a question for you: now that the OSSAA has been bypassed and overruled by a state court, what are the odds the officiating crew on Saturday night is the most lopsided and biased bunch ever assembled for a playoff game?

Things could get real interesting Saturday night.

Tell me about it. The OSSAA are tools. How come I think we'll get the same crew that worked the semi-final game against Denzel Washington in "Remember the Titans"? :D

Back in '86, Ivan Evans and our wrestling coach had a spat. So they sent us to a regional that had 7 of the top 10 teams in the state...up in Tulsa. Although we are only 30 miles from Carl Albert, the site of the other regional.

So Mark used it for motivation and it worked to a Tee. We qualified 12 of 13 wrestlers for state (the one didn't make weight or we'd have taken all 13).

Theirs a picture of him wearing a headband ala Jim McMahon that says "Ivan" across the front.

Did I mention I think the OSSAA are tools? ;)

The Vian Wolverines roll to another victory, 55-10 over Rush Springs in Saturday's Class A quarterfinals. Vfastv Locust had over 300 yards rushing and seven touchdowns; he now has 57 TD's on the year.
That sets up the dream matchup: No. 1 Tonkawa vs. No. 2 Vian Saturday afternoon in Broken Arrow.

Yes, they were very tough. They also had one big edge over Vian in that they had numerous players that had been in big-game situations whereas Vian was making its first trip to the semifinals since 1981. Tonkawa is going on to win the state championship. Don't feel too bad for Vian, they return a boatload of talent for next year, although the Wolverines move back up to Class 2A.

I never understood moving up and down in class so often.

Does 0.5 more students per day really matter? (That's how much my high school was over the Class A line one year and got stuck in 2A).
