On old favorite.

FanInAma has been bringing Fat Tire to the tailgates and that stuff is pretty good. I had somebody pick me up some Fat Tire this weekend when they were in Texas and he said he liked it but not good enough to drink it regularly (which is pretty easy to say because I don't think you can get it in Oklahoma). Anyway, what do you guys think of Fat Tire and what are your favorites?

I'm thinking that Guinness is still my favorite (Guinness on draught is yummy), with Fat Tire being my next favorite. I generally only drink microbrews after those 2. I just don't like beer in a can or a bottle that much. Coach's has a dark beer that is pretty good, but I don't go to coach's anymore.

Have you tried any of the Anchor beers?

I love the whole line of Anchor beers with Steam being my fave.

New Belgium has a wheat beer that is pretty good.

Sam Adams has some seasonal beers out now. At Sam's (or was it costco) they have a variety 12 pack that comes out this time each year... The Winter Brew is very good.

I like Guinness, but it's pricey (as is Anchor)... There are domestics that I like as much and don't cost as much. It's good stuff, though.

If you can ever find Sam Adams Octoberfest GET IT! I didn't get any this year because it was october and the label is orange, so I passed... I'm going to try to find it, though, now that it's November.

In my opinion, Fat Tire is the same as Shiner Bock and Shiner is cheaper.

I like Fat Tire but I only drink it every now and then. Shiner Bock makes some good beers....and believe it or not, Ziegenbock (only available in Texas) is pretty damn good (made by AB)

I was drinking fat tire for a while, but for me it has this after taste that doesn't work for me.

I agree with you on Guiness, though I prefer a black and tan or half and half when available.

About a month ago I was in Milwaukee on business and was drinking what they call a black and blue - Guiness and Blue Moon - which I think was Belgian and a little lighter than Bass or Harp. Much more separation but still pretty tasty.

I've never had a Shiner Bock. It's always seemed too trendy.

I really need to start drinking more beer. There is a pretty good liquor store near me on alameda that has a bunch of different beers. I guess since I have better luck with microbrews I have trouble trying to branch out into different bottled beers.

Lucky for us, there is a microbrewery 4 miles from my house. Every Saturday at 1:00, you can take the 20 minute tour and get enough free beer that you need a designated driver.... They give you tokens that you can redeem to sample any of their beers. If you buy a mug or glass, they'll fill that sucker up for you... If you bought one in the past, bring it and they'll fill that sucker up for you.

Also, it's become fashionable among the grocery stores in the area to stock many many micro brews and imports. The Fiesta store a mile from our house must keep 50 - 70 beers in stock. Every week, they'll have something good on sale. I try new things by buying what's on sale.

And... My wife started liking to try different beers when I started doing the home brew. If she sees something interesting, she'll pick it up for us to try.

As much as I like to talk about and taste beer, I probably drink less than 3-4 beers a week.

Guinness is awesome, but only if you're in England. There is a major difference between the Guinness you get in London and what you'll get in Dublin. To me, the Guinness here in the states taste watered down.

Fat Tire is a pretty damn good beer, so is Shiner Bock. You should also try something called Blackened Voodoo, it's some pretty good stuff but hard to find.

Having a Guinness in Dublin is on my top ten things to do list. That would be awesome. There will be Guinness draft bottles at the Soonerfans BBQ tailgate in KC, btw. :)

I could have sworn I saw Fat Tire at Corkscrew liquor on 12th and Lindsey.

When in Breckenridge, you must go to the Breckenridge Brewery and get some of the freshly made draw beer. It is much better than the bottled version, which is very good. It is a must for hanging out after a day on the half-pipe.

Siner Bock is just now geting trendy. Try it anyway. It is great.

I do believe Norm speaks of Joe's Place.

And Beano, Sam Adams Oktoberfest is good, but the German Oktoberfests from Spaten and Hacker-Pschorr are ever better. (I'm having a Spaten Oktoberfest right now... yum.) Or, you could take the next step and go for a Doppelbock. You know Shiner? Well, whatever they do to it, they do it again, and you get a double bock. :) It'll knock you on your *** (8% ABV), and you've gotta be in the mood for a dark beer, but well worth it. Spaten Optimator (OT mentioned it) is a really good example.

If you like wheat beer, TRY FRANZISKANER NOW. Or, head over to The Library; they've got it on tap. It's almost orgasmic.

Back to Fat Tire. Fat Tire is pretty good, but I don't think it's any better than Bass, Harp, or even Killian's on a good day. Bass ans Killian's have less of an aftertaste than Harp and Fat Tire.

I'll add my endorsement to Franziskaner. Very, very good stuff. The scary part is that the dark variety in a bottle is even better than the light variety on tap.

Oh, and Murphy's Irish Stout is better than Guinness. All the flavor with none of the aftertaste.

Oh, and Murphy's Irish Stout is better than Guinness. All the flavor with none of the aftertaste.

Depends on which guinness you're comparing with. The Guinness Extra Stout in the bottle compares favorably with every other stout I've had.

I'm not sure what all this after taste complaint is you're talking about. I would imagine it's the hops and some beers are supposed to do that... I've never heard of anyone complain about the aftertaste on a guinness. It does have an after taste, but it's not unpleasant.

No offense to any of the replies on this thread, but I believe people put too much into a beer's reputation; whether it is its national origin, stoutness or how cool it must look to be seen drinking it.

Drink what you like. I have yet to enjoy a Mexican beer. I also have yet to enjoy a beer from Holland. There are SEVERAL English beers and ales I love, and a few German that make their way to my cabinet from time to time.

Hell, I can even think of a Japanese beer I like. (one)

I don't have enough time to screw around with trying to look cool with a crappy tasting beer.

I did have a beer that was pretty bad recently.

It was called, and I kid you not, "Buffalo Butt." beer.

Dude at Specs said it was a "hot seller." Maybe, but it wasn't a good drinker.

One of my good friend's 30th birthday is this weekend. His wife has rented out the frickin' Saint Arnold Brewery here in town and they're having food catered. I think I will need one of you guys to drive us home.

Saint Arnold brewery tours are pretty sweet. Basically, they have rented out some warehouse space and all of the equipment is in one really big warehouse room.

So, the tour lasts 20 minutes and they give each person 3 or 4 tokens or 5 tokens, I forget how many... Then at the end of the tour, everyone bellies up to their bar and redeem tokens for beers. The trick is this: They give each person small glasses made for tasting... but if you own your own Saint Arnold merchandise, mugs, pint glasses, etc... They'll fill them up for you... once per token... And if you take your wife, she'll usually give you one or two of her tokens.

Also, there's this: I guess the six pack cardboard holders are expensive and they reuse them. If you take them with you, they will exchange them for Saint Arnold Merchandise. Pretty sweet deal.

Here is the exchange rate:
10 carriers: Pint glass
20 carriers: Pilsner glass or poster
50 carriers: Mug, balloon glass, t-shirt (one sided, not the seasonal)
75 carriers: T-shirt (two sided and the seasonal shirts)
100 carriers: Tie-dyed t-shirt
200 carriers: Polo shirt
300 carriers: Hopwaiian shirt
1,000 carriers: You will be the first name on our Christmas card list!
200,000 carriers: Tie-dyed Bentley

What's a Fatty Natty?? - doez anybody REALLY know the alcohol content of a beer, aside form 3.2%? We always used to think "liquor store" beer was 6% - but no way. According to the labels: Liquor Store Coors is about 5%, ice beers are about 5.5 (Icehouse) -5.9% (Natural Light Ice). Those are the higher ones I've actually seen. There's a pub called the Crown & Anchor not far from my house where they post the alc % on a chalk board. They have a good selection, few are more than 5%, most are between 4-5%. Abita Amber is about 5.6%. Does anybody know where to get the facts?

I visted ratebeer.com and learned straightaway that I'm not really much of a beer aficionado. My Abita didn't impress the raters, but my motto is pretty much, if you like it, it's good. I will definitely be returning to that site though, really cool. Thanks, BFC.

EGAD! Ratebeer.com lists Fuller's London Porter as the #32 beer in the world for winter 2004? Right behind Chimay Blue at #31. I'm not sure I buy that; maybe I just really don't get along with porters, but that Fuller's stuff tasted just like Pyramid Snowcap and Folgers.

Heh... Look at that list:
http://www.ratebeer.com/documents/Top50_2004a.asp

See how many are stouts? The ratings seem to favor the darker beers.

On the top 50 list, I think I've only had:
#10 Stone Imperial Russian Stout
#26 Stone Double Bastard
#31 Chimay Bleu
#46 Stone IPA

Thank you Fiesta and Whole Foods for starting to carry Stone Brewery products.

Regarding Folgers, I made a coffee stout about a year and a half ago which actually had a pot of coffee added to the wort before fermenting. Some really good stuff.

You should try the Red Hood Doubleblack Stout (http://www.ratebeer.com/Ratings/Beer/ShowBeer.asp?BeerID=665) for another good coffee beer.

Nevermind... it's been discontinued... I guess Starbucks wanted to much to keep the partnership going.

I just need to try some more beers. I guess I have had so many that I don't like, I have a hard time trying new ones.

Arrogant Bastard, now there's a beer. We had a bar in San Angelo that served Arrogant Bastard. 1 bottle and you were done for the night. I haven't found it here in NM yet.
Blam, found it at my local grocer. along with a couple other varieties.

My favorite beer is (was) Mamba

http://beer.trash.net/img/beers/896.gif

It was awesome. Sadly, revolutionaries blew up the brewery. I kid you not.

I've been waiting years for them to rebuild the brewery. Or build a new one somewhere else. Hasn't happened yet. So, I drink a lot less beer than I used to.

Not everyone agreed, though -- some really seemed to hate Mamba, for whatever reason.
Man, I loved it. I used to drink it all of the time at the Royal Rack on Lower Greenville in Dallas, listening to live reggae and playing pool.

The only thing about Mamba is that it was GUARANTEED to give you a headache the next day.

I bought a sixer of the Boulevard Irish Ale the other night. Really good stuff I thought.
