View Full Version : Movies are killing me

I really need a cheaper hobby. There are 2 movies coming out tomorrow that I want, and then there is at least 1 movie per week I want until December. That is not even including the movies like Matrix that I want to see at the theater.

Christmas Vacation 10/07/03
The Lion King 10/07/03
Matrix Reloaded 10/14/03
Indiana Jones Boxed Set 10/21/03
Looney Toons Golden Edition 10/28/03
The Hulk 10/28/03
Finding Nemo 11/04/03
Two Towers 11/18/03
X2: X-men United 11/25/03

AND, I just found out that they came out with A Christmas Story in widescreen. How can I not buy that???

I hate movies and want to drown Texas.

Yep. They used to only sell the pan and scan version (I don't buy pan and scan unless it is from a TV show or something). Now they have the "Special Edition" that is widescreen (and I hope Dolby Digital and stuff).

The Looney Toons one is similar to the Borg one, I guess. There is supposed to be like 80 cartoons in that set.

We got it, and then sold it on Amazon. It was really weird -- we'd been waiting for Indiana Jones to come out on DVD since we've had a player, but when it did, we found we didn't enjoy it nearly as much as we expected to.

No idea why. Although it was kinda fun seeing the snake reflection removed in that scene in the well of souls...

Sheesh... Star Wars as a disappointment... I surely *hope* it doesn't end up that way.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. 'Course, I've been sorta disappointed ever since Lucas decided to make it 6 episodes instead of 9, so I guess at least a *little* disappointment is a given :D

From Fatwallet.com:

"Hollywood Video has a 20+ page pamphlet that lists both Seinfeld DVD sets for $19.99 each, good through Nov. 30th. Hollywood Video already has posted a note to their employees not to honor this price as it is a mistake, but you can use the pamphlet to price match. I was told the best place to pricematch would be Wal-Mart."

Go to Hollywood Video and pick up an ad and then take it to Wal-Mart and you should be able to get this for $19.99 instead of $39.99.

Yup. They matched it. I don't know if they called Hollywood or what, but it took about 10 minutes for them to do it (talking to managers and everything). I definitely didn't push it, I just asked what the price matching policy is when they originally said they didn't think they could do that. Evidently, 19.99 is way below what they bought it for.

OT hate me.

If anything I'm mad at Wal-Mart becuase of our policies...

For Example...we had a kid bring back a PS2 game...well actually he brought back a PS2 game case, inside was a Burned CD with "Creed" written on it.

He told the people at the service desk that when he got home he opened up the game and this CD was in there.

They let him get another copy.

There is no way that a burned CD got into the case at the factory.

Now see, to me that is pretty wrong. I didn't break any rules, I just used their policy against them, which as far as I know is "We will match any local competitor's advertised price." I couldn't have gotten away with this at circuit city because they go on to say something like "in stock items". They also call to make sure it is in stock before matching.

OK, there are 2 (maybe 3) versions. One is a 2 disc version and then there is the 4 disc version you were talking about. I am sorta confused because maybe there is a 2 disc version that has DTS or something that is $2 more. The best buy ad (online at least) is confusing.

Unbreakable?

i need to pick up The Aristocrats, Waiting and Wedding Crashers

what were you saying about R rated movies? :D
Yeah, unbreakable. I liked that movie.

I hear Wedding crashers is good, but I don't want to spend money on it. I need to buy 40 year old virgin though. Maybe it's in the bargain bin by now.

I bought Zathura last week - it's a good kids flick.

In addition to what you listed, I'll pick up King Kong on March 28th. Definitely good enough to buy (and I can skip to the island scenes directly).

And that would never happen.

My wife hates those kind of flicks...it is the succ

Gotta wait till she goes on one of those work conferences to catch up on those kind of flicks.

Wedding Crashers was a lot funnier than I thought it would be. My wife actually wants to watch 40 Year Old Virgin, so I guess we'll try to do that at some point. :D

We watched Flightplan and Doom over the weekend. Flightplan was pretty decent and Doom was ok . . .

Here is a list of movies I saw over the weekend.

Saw II - Not bad, could have been better.

Wedding Crashers - Very funny. It's not drop dead hilarious like 40YV, but still a solid rental.

Thumbsucker - Don't bother.

Broken Flowers - After watching it a second time, it grew on me. But may not be for everyone.

Proof - Good stuff. Solid rental.

Hustle and Flow - Very good. Solid rental.

I still need to see:

Junebug
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Redeye
Flightplan
Happy Endings
Domino

The default behavior for my list is to be on it. You have to work to get off my "To kill..." list. And really, if you're not on the list, it's more like you are on a "Probably won't kill..." list.

I want to see The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Redeye . . . I might just have to make a quick trip to Hastings.

I think you'll like Flightplan . . . Jody Foster's character does get a little annoying, but all-in-all it wasn't bad.

Transformers was just like Phantom Menace...entertaining scenes at the beginning and end, and several scenes of teeth-grinding, inane dialog.

Just record it. the trailers make it look awesome, and I was personally disappointed. As far as spiderman 3 goes, it is good, but does not meet your expectations after how freakin amazing 2 was.

I liked Transformers. I came in with low expectations and it surprised me. That kid is pretty funny. Also I felt like in general the 20-foot-tall-computer-generated-robots-from-outer-space-that-transform-into-vehicles were pretty believable.

Fantastic 4 was OK. I probably liked it better than the first one (which isn't saying much).

Spiderman 3 was pretty good, but only about 60% as good as the first two.

Pirates 3 was was OK too, but like the 2nd one it wasn't nearly as good as the first one.
