A guy at work is kind of a self-proclaimed music afficianado and was telling me aobut dimeadozen.org, where you can download all kinds of live performances. I mentioned I like Umphrey's Magee and he brought 15 CDs of live performances he has burned.

Anybody have any experience with this? Is it the same thing as Bit Torrent?

I download there quite frequently, and it is bit torrent.

you can get a lot of great stuff there.

you might also check out www.archive.org (which isn't bit torrent just download and convert)

i can point you in more directions if needed.

Thanks, Hatfield. Music Guy had given me that one, too. Those will keep me busy for a while.

i would love to get on dime-a-dozen, but they limit subscribers to 100,000, and every time I try to register it's full.

try several times throughout the day.

people are always getting bumped off randomly and you will eventually get in just don't try only once a day.

yeah, this one is nice because it's totally legal and all the downloads are concerts or demos.

just make sure you give back as much as you take....or you will be on the outside looking in

As in donations? Music contributions?

as in if you pull down a show that is 300 mb leave your window open until you have uploaded 300 mb.

keep your share ratio at least at 1.0

sometimes that isn't practical because there won't be anyone else really going after that show so just leave your windows open on the busy ones and you will be fine.

Ok, idiot question, and I haven't actually downloaded anything from there yet, but is there a place that displays share ratio?

when you are logged in it should have something in the top left corner that looks like this:

Logged in as: chop1040 [Uploader]
Uploaded Downloaded Ratio
37.25 GB 37.69 GB 0.99
