I'm guessing Faninama did the registeration, or is actually running.

They're plugging along.

I had two goals. To come in under the winning marathon time and to throw up. I accomplished both. Of course, the throwing up was from the 70-something year old lady on Classen showing her support by belly dancing for us, but that's splitting hairs.

Seriously, I was very pleased to break two hours - didn't really expect to. I timed my taper well, and I couldn't really expect to do any better. It does tend to motivate me to get serious about training again, we'll see how long that lasts.

Sorry not to have seen anyone from the team or Lubby. I looked for folks in the Rennasaince lobby in case they showed up but never saw anyone. We got to the starting line coming from the wrong direction and I ended up getting stuck in gridlock and starting with the 3:00 marathoners. Oops.

I bettered my Red Bud 10k, so I was pumped.

We went across the finish as a team. Far out.

Thanks for the support. I'm going back to bed.

It was a lot of fun...I highly recommend running/walking/participating in one.

Great atmosphere, great crowds, great run.

Plus it's always cool to run with people of like minds. When they announced "The Soonerfans.com team" right before we ran across the finish line, I almost got a chill.

Or is that too gay???

If it is, I reserve the right to re-phrase to "I got a boner looking at all the hot chicks".

Doing the OKC Marathon is always a great time. You don't have to be in killer shape (pretty obvious huh?) to run in this thing. The Soonerfans.com team thanks you all for your support. Cam was doing a great job passing out water and stuff. Thanks to Phil for the shirts, and thanks to Soonerboarder, Faninama, Jimminy Crimson, and Micco Macy for making up a very fun team. Also, congrats to the "real" runners out there (Howzit and Lubby come to mind) who did the half or whole. Y'all really oughtta consider doing it next year. It's a great event.

I wonder if people know that the first two runners in that pic got on a scale last week right after each other? And that the combined weight was well over 500 pounds?

"Ladies and gentlemen, in this corner, weighing in at a combined weight of 527 pounds, the tag team of ........"

I heard that when we crossed the finish line it registered 6.2 on the Richter Scale.

I had a 6:00 am flight this morning, and could barely get out of bed. When I was walking up the jet bridge in O'Hare I though I was going to have to call for a wheelchair.

Dean is right, this is such a great event I would encourage anyone to consider it next year. Very well supported, very good turnout considering the Boston Marathon was last week and there is no prize money.

As far as the "real runner" bit, all I can say is it's pretty humbling to see some older guy in his 70's ahead of you, shuffling along, and you're gaining no ground. At all. But that is another great thing about this event, there is such a variance of abilities and fitness levels, you're bound to fit in somewhere.

Congrats to the relay and Lubby/Mrs Lubby. Everyone did great, and I'm really disappointed I couldn't have seen you guys come in. Between this morning's 6:00 am flight and having to get back to Dallas, I hit the road pretty quickly.

Major CONGRATS to all you guys that did the running thing yesterday. I wanted to hang around and try to find you guys, but my wife's parents were with us, so we had to bail. I didn't even get to visit the massage tent. [insert "happy ending" joke here]

I have to say that it was probably one of the most incredible experiences ever for me. The feeling of running down Robinson at 6:30 am amid 11,000 other racers is something I'll never forget. Being at the top of the hill coming down toward Reno and seeing all those (faster) people was just amazing.

Perfect day for a race, huh? I was hating it at the start, waiting to get going, but once we were underway it was just perfect.

Yes, Mrs. LubTex and I ran together, but we didn't "hold hands." It would have been pretty stupid of me to have run off and left her, since we trained for this together. Besides we're pretty much the same speed. Without sounding sappy and getting made fun of on this here public message board, I have to say it was pretty meaningful for us to cross together. I would like to point out, though, that it was MY time that was one second faster...

So here's the break down of our race, since you guys probably missed it on Sportscenter....

We started off and just took it easy. Since it was cold and my wife had been nursing a IT band sprain for the last two weeks, we didn't want to go out too fast.

For the first 6 miles we didn't get passed much, but we weren't passing many people either.

After the 10 K split, we were 1:15, I think. By then we were both feeling pretty good so we cranked it up a bit and did the rest in 1:15. Not that passing people was anything close to being "what this race was about" for us, but it sure was cool to blow by some people on the last half. I even passed an OKC triathlon club member that I met the day before at the Expo. Since we had already hung out a little the day before, I felt pretty okay about giving him a little "good natured ribbing" as I passed him. Good times...

And like Howzit said, it was sometimes frustrating to see this one old dude in the distance just scootin' along and not be able to reel him in.

At any rate, it was a really great experience. The setting and atmosphere were great, and the people associated with the event were great as well. We will definitely race again next year. This year our goal was to finish 13.1 miles without stopping to walk, and do it at or under 2:30. We did that, so next year our goal is a more "Howzit-esque" 2:00. That would be pretty cool.

Oh, yeah. I almost forgot.

1. My legs are freakin' SORE. I thought I had learned my lesson about what happens when you don't stretch, but apparently not.

2. When we saw the 70 year old "festively rotund" belly dancer we were both pretty horrified as well.

3. Did anyone else see the little black fellow in the park that kept raising his hands in the air and saying "OUTSTANDING!" every time a racer would come by? That guy rocked. For the next 3 or 4 miles, whenever I got sort of tired I would do that and it made me feel better.

Try it at your desk right now. Just raise your hands in the air and yell "OUTSTANDING!"

Cool, huh?

Yeah, did you notice the date? September 24th. That means you're cycling and running training will be during the summer months, and there is a pretty good chance the temps on race day could be in the 90's.

Heh.

Yeah, I was talking with the OKC-Tri dude at the Expo about those races and the new one in El Reno.

As for EITHER the half or full Redman... fuhgetaboutit. I promised myself I wouldn't THINK of doing something so stupid until I at least placed in my age group for a sprint distance. No freakin' way.

Just like Howzit said, anyone who wants to do either of those races better be feelin' it right now, because getting trained up over June, July, and August would SUCK.

The idea of doing what I did yesterday after swimming 1.2 miles and riding 56 makes me hurt. The idea of doing it in the Oklahoma heat makes me hurt BAD.

I don't even think I'd be down with the El Reno race because it's an Olympic distance.

Why don't people do more SHORT races? Even the freakin' Tulsa Tri is an Olympic!

And we're all heterosexuals.

I think.

And yes Lub, it was a glorious day for a race! Best weather ever for the OKC for sure. Two years ago when I was doing the half, there was about a 35 mph wind out of the south. Back then it was a 2-person relay, and I had the second half. A little bit west, then north with the tailwind, then you turn south along the lake and start into that headwind. By the time I got to where those disgusting belly dancers were on Classen I was toast.

And did anybody else notice the odors on that stretch of Classen by the Vietnamese places? A guy I was running with goes "man, they're cooking dog in there." I said "nah, dog smells better than that." He looked at me kinda funny and pulled away. He was a State Police sergeant from Arkansas.

I'm doing the half marathon this year. I am going to sign up for it early to force myself.

I bet 5 people could be brought together to do it, though.

# 2nd Leg – 5km/3.1 miles

I'm doing the White Rock half in December. I have delusions of continuing the training and trying the OKC marathon, which means I'll puss out once I hit the 18 milers and end up doing the OKC half, too.

You'll do great, Boarder. Maybe we can meet up to do a long run or two before April...
