I'm glad you asked this because I'm wondering the same thing. I'm too lazy to really listen to all the lyrics.

Here's the lyrics.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new mania.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind **** America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Is Jane Fonda a Green Day fan?

I hear last night on Letterman she called for a complete immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq....to the audience applause.

...what? Letterman's audience is gonna boo a devout "blame America first" counter culture heroine?

Maybe she and Sean Penn can arrange a trip over to Iraq to do some reporting on the war crimes being committed by U.S. troops.

What a POS.

Your so well informed

Full Name : Billie Joe Armstrong
Plays : Vocals, Guitar
Born : February 17, 1972
Family : wife, Adrienne ( Nesser, married July 1994); son, Joseph Marciano (born March 1995); son, Jacob Danger (born September 1998)
Also Plays : Harmonica, Mandolin, Drums, Piano
Has Also Played With : Pinhead Gunpowder, Blatz, Rancid, the Lookouts, Goodbye Harry, Corrupted Morals

Billie Joe was the youngest of six kids in a working-class family in Rodeo, California. His father was a truck driver and part time jazz musician who died of cancer when Billie Joe was ten, his mother a waitress and diehard country music fan. As a child, Billie would sing at hospitals to cheer patients up. He also recorded a song called "Look For Love" for the locally based Fiat Records when he was five. The first album Billie Joe bought was Elvis Presley's The Sun Sessions. Soon after a couple friends got him hooked on punk bands like DOA, TSOL, and the Dead Kennedys. At age eleven, Billie got his first guitar, a blue Stratocaster that he plays to this day. He wrote his first song, "Why Do You Want Him", when he was 14. Billie Joe is the co-founder and partial owner of the independant label Adeline Records.

Billie Joe's favorite and most famous guitar is a Fernandes Stratocaster copy he called "Blue". It has two single-coil pick-ups and a Seymour Duncan "Jeff Beck" humbucker pick-up in the bridge position, but he only plays through the humbucker pickup. He has since had a copy of "Blue" made by Fender. It is exactly the same as the original one, but with different stickers on it. He also has a Fender Jazzmaster, a sonic blue Fender Jagstang, a Gibson Classic Series ES-135 and ES-335, an SG, a Rickenbacker, and a Guild sunburst acoustic. Billie Joe mainly uses a clone of his original 1959 Marshall 100W SLP modified amplifier, with 1960 4x12" Marshall Cabinets. He has also used Fender Bassman, Hiwatt, and Leslie amps. Billie mainly uses green, custom made Dunlop Tortex Standard .88mm picks, Ernie Ball .10 strings, and GHS Boomers.

Yes it is all good, My favorites are Jesus of Suburbia & Give me Novacaine.

-Jesus Of Suburbia-

I'm the son of rage and love,
The Jesus of suburbia,
From the bible of "none of the above",
On a steady diet of soda pop and ritalin,
No one ever died for my sins in hell,
As far as I can tell,
At least the ones I got away with

But there's nothing wrong with me,
This is how I'm supposed to be,
In a land of make believe,
That don't believe in me

Get my television fix,
Sitting on my crucifix,
The living room in my private womb,
While the Mom's and Brad's are away,
To fall in love and fall in debt,
To alcohol and cigarettes and Mary Jane,
To keep me insane and doing someone else's cocaine
---

-City Of The Damned-

At the center of the earth,
In the parking lot,
Of the 7-11 where I was taught,
The motto was just a lie

It says: home is where your heart is,
But what a shame,
'Cause everyone's heart,
Doesn't beat the same,
We're beating out of time

City of the dead,
At the end of another lost highway,
Signs misleading to nowhere,
City of the damned,
Lost children with dirty faces today,
No one really seems to care

I read the graffiti,
In the bathroom stall,
Like the holy scriptures in a shopping mall,
And so it seemed to confess,
It didn't say much,
But it only confirmed that,
The center of the earth,
Is the end of the world

And I could really care less
---
-I Don't Care-

I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't care
I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't care
I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't care
I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't,
I don't care if you don't care

Everyone Is So Full Of ****!
Born and raised by hypocrites,
Hearts recycled but never saved,
From the cradle to the grave,
We are the kids of war and peace,
From Anaheim to the middle east,
We are the stories and disciples of,
The Jesus Of Suburbia

Land of make believe,
And it don't believe in me,
Land of make believe,
And I don't believe,
And I don't care!
---
-Dearly Beloved-

Dearly beloved, are you listening?
I can't remember a word that you were saying,
Are we demented? Or am I disturbed?
The space that's in between insane and insecure

Oh therapy can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused,
For the lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse
---
-Tales Of Another Broken Home-

To live and not to breathe,
Is to die in tragedy,
To run, to run away,
To find what you believe,
And I leave behind,
This hurricane of ****ing lies,
I lost my faith to this,
This town that don't exist

So I run,
I run away

To the light of masochists,
And I leave behind,
This hurricane of ****ing lies,
And I walked this line,
A million and one ****ing times,
But not this time

I don't feel any shame,
I won't apologize

When there ain't nowhere you can go,
Running away from pain,
When you've been victimized,
Tales from another broken home

Green Day - Give Me Novacaine

Take away the sensation inside
Bitter sweet migraine in my head
Its like a throbbing tooth ache of the mind
I can't take this feeling anymore

Drain the pressure from the swelling,
The sensations overwhelming,
Give me a kiss goodnight and everything will be alright
Tell me that I won't feel a thing
So give me Novacaine

Out of body and out of mind
Kiss the demons out of my dreams
I get the funny feeling, that?s alright
Jimmy says it's better than air,
I?ll tell you why

Drain the pressure from the swelling,
The sensations overwhelming,
Give me a kiss goodnight and everything will be alright,
Tell me that I won't feel a thing,
So give me Novacaine

Oh Novacaine

Drain the pressure from the swelling,
The sensations overwhelming
Give me a kiss goodnight and everything will be alright,
Tell me Jimmy I won't feel a thing,
So give me Novacaine

Again, it is kind of hard to be wrong, when the person accusing you of being wrong isn't intelligent enough to actually show proof of it.

On the other hand, you will find many references to Billie Joe Armstrong's mother being from the area.

On a side note, me and my family are from Tulsa, however I spent much time growing up in Texas and new jersey/pa cause I had family there.

But guess what, if I had one sentence to describe where I was from, it would be Tulsa, OK.

Do yourself a favor, go do a goggle search on the lead singer of Greenday and Oklahoma, see what you get, if you can figure that one out.

in Tuba-land assertions by 3rd parties are cold hard facts.

tuba i actually think that he probably did at least spend some time in Oklahoma since he has family here. However the mere fact that his mom is from here in and of itself means nothing. She could have hated OK and left never to return. So there is a scenario where your assumption that since his mom was from here he must have come back could be flawed.

more importantly at the end of the day....who really cares if he did or didn't.

Like I said before, I have no proof, nor did I ever claim to have any proof.

Jebus posted himself that he has family from the area, and you have the assertion from someone who actually lives in Tulsa saying they spent time here growing up.

Those are the facts we have, which tend to favor my argument.

Besides, if you didn't care so badly about trying to prove me wrong, why do you keep posting responses???

screw them. I turn the radio station when I hear a song by them now.

On a side note, the lead singer supposedly spent much of his childhood in Tulsa.

oh lookie, no mention of fact in my first post about this, unless that is "supposedly" is another word for "fact" in your world???

I'm not a big Green Day fan, but I know the album is a rock opera so you pretty much have to go through every song to get the big picture. btw, they're from Berkley.

OK, now back to the flaming libs and kneejerk conservatives arguing one of the great debates of our time - whether Billy Joe spent any time in Tulsa.

OH MY GOD. You people are arguing over some stupid ****. Seriously. Arguing over whether someone did or didn't live in a certain town? Come on. Some of you people are psychos.

====================

The song is not about "Bush is bad. Rednecks are bad. Republicans are bad." Green Day may have those opinions, but that is beside the point. And I bet that even after reading this some of you will still be hung up on the fact that they don't like President Bush.

The song is about the paranoia and panic the current form of media thrives on. Whether it be raising the terror alert level, featuring graphic violence on the news or glorifying/publicizing bombings or shootings -- the media goes after it like sharks to blood. They create panic. Hysteria. Tension.

The song is basically saying: Think for yourself. Don't be controlled by majority opinion. Don't be controlled by propaganda -- whatever side it comes from. Don't give in to this paranoia.

And the faggot/redneck thing? It's about the labels that crazies put on each other. If I say, "Homosexuals should be able to get married", then some psycho conservative will call me a faggot. If I say, "Homosexuals should not be able to get married", then some psycho liberal will call me a redneck.

Actually before the argument started over whether or not the lead singer's mom was from Oklahoma or vacationed in Oklahoma or drove through Oklahoma, this thread beautifully illustrated the kneejerk reactions this song is talking about.

So, my posting "what does this mean?" really shows my intelligence, huh? :D I (I don't know why) always thought they were British. That changes my whole view of the song.

Thanks, BSG. This would have been destined to be a "literary classic" among threads, and you diverted it into a steaming pile of crap. :D

Maybe you should clarify what you mean by opinion. Would you consider making anti-American propaganda for Vietnam an opinion? No, that would be an act of giving aid to an enemy.

So I guess you don't think giving aid to an enemy is treason? I think the legal definition would disagree with you.

I've never seen more mindless liberal drivel in one thread. All of those 'lyrics' are a waste of breath. Does anyone fail to see their attitude? "If you don't agree with greenday's socialist political views, then you are a dumb redneck."

They bash America, even though they like our milk and honey.

They bash Christians, even though they know nothing of it but what they see on the Daystar network.

They act like 'middle America' is supposed to stop what they're doing and listen to their "rage" and act like it matters. It's supposed to 'startle us' or something! Oh no! The liberals are ...angry!!! You better just put your tampons back in because you don't have any guns to revolt with anyway. The rednecks do.

Really, Greenday...we don't give a rat's *** about your political opinions. And it just further reinforces my will never to be ruled by people of your ilk. I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees. When people like this become politicians they are dangerous, cuz' they tend to believe that the ends justifies the means.

Stay in the People's Republic of Kalifornia and watch it self-destruct before your eyes.

Yes, and they're doing such a fine job of 'reaching out' and 'uniting America.'

You'd think that they would do a little soul searching after getting their asses handed to them in the last several elections, yet they have actually hardened...and insist on insulting anyone who isn't intellectual enough to see their utopian dreams.

I'm sure 104.5 is playing it over and over again.

you wouldn't by any chance mean going to war with misreprensentation of the facts, then shifting in mid battle and saying we went to war to free people. no one... not even bush's favorite redneck could've missed that example of believing the ends justifies the means.

and i'm not calling you bush's favorite redneck. that's what you and tuba will have to fight over. quickest draw wins? :D

You'd think that they would do a little soul searching after getting their asses handed to them in the last several elections. Yeah, the only soul-searching I'm doing in regard to the last couple elections is wondering how they were able to steal the last 2 and get away with it. It was a lot closer than you would like to think. For the record, I think Greenday sucks and this thread sucks. How's that for an opinion.
