I'm just testing the new poll function.

So, who would you vote for on Tuesday?

KaiserSooner

I'd probably put a check by Schwarzenbiggin' but I'd first check no on the recall.

Then you'd vote for the most incompetent Governor in the History of California???

I know you probably have your philosophical reasons against recall in general but it is the LAW in California and I support it.

I wish other states could recall bad governors.

agreed Ron, and bad presidents too.

agreed Ron, and bad presidents too.No ****, if we coulda had a recall right after "Universal Hillary Care" and right before Tim McVey. We could beat down Clinton before he shafted us with scandal and a parting recession.

I understand it's the law, and I also support such a law as long as it isn't abused.

A recall is meant for extraordinary situations. A governor committing illegal acts is an extraordinary situation. Unpopularity and horrible decision-making are not extraordinary. In fact, they are quite common...if every state had recall, half the nation's governors would be removed before their term ended.

Gray Davis isn't being recalled for anything illegal or extraordinary. He's being recalled because he is unpopular.

Believe me. I'm no fan of Davis. But I'm also no fan of abuse of legal statutes.

Big Red Ron

The law does not require an illegality on his part. Gross negligence pertaining to the economy (he lied about the budget numbers until after his reelection) and really just couple of million signatures is all that is needed.

Big Red Ron

There has been no abuse of legal statutes. The courts have reviewed this, even the most liberal 9th circuit has ruled that the recall is a legal process.

Lying is a recallable offense? Every single politician, even the ones you and I like, lie all the time.

I know illegality isn't required in the law....which goes to why I believe recall is being abused. The intent of such a law is to remove governors in extraordinary situations (like breaking the law); an unpopular governor (or one who lies) isn't an extraordinary situation.

I'm not saying that the recall is illegal. I'm just saying that it is being abused, which is why I'm against it. Hitler, for example, abused Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution in order to obtain his dictatorial powers in March 1933. There was nothing illegal about what he did, but he did abuse the law.

Wow. I thought McClintock was more popular than that on this board....looks like Bustamante is catching up with him.

So with Arnold's huge lead, can I declare him governor of Soonerfans?

Then you'd vote for the most incompetent Governor in the History of California???

I know you probably have your philosophical reasons against recall in general but it is the LAW in California and I support it.

I wish other states could recall bad governors.

Recall laws are a horrible decision.

Politicians already spend too much time worrying about re-election to do their jobs properly. We are a representative democratic people -- our elected officials are supposed to serve for us. They aren't supposed to do what we want every time they make a decision.

In other words, we aren't supposed to be electing people who respond to every whim of the electorate. The electoral process is meant to be a time when we evaluate the calibre of the candidates and vote for the one whose judgement we most strongly trust.

Then, once elected, that official is supposed to be free to make decisions, even decisions we don't like, until their term expires.

When you have a government that can be undone at any time if the population is unhappy enough with it, that government will be paralyzed and unable to function in a decisive manner to cope with problems that have no tenable, popular solution. Or, even worse, it will make such decisions purely to cater to popularity -- even when that decision is a bad one.

There is no "do-over" in elections. Nor should there be. A recall procedure such as California has on the books gives the vocal, hard-core minority at either fringe of our two primary parties the option to derail and sabotage our electoral system at any time.

Most governmental bodies were very deliberate when they established terms of service for various offices. Hence, for example, our United States House of Representatives members only serve for two years -- a reflection of the fact that their job is to most closely mimic the mercurial wants and needs of a local constituency back home, while the United States Senate term is six years -- a term which encourages stability, forethought, and a long view of things unclouded by temporary whims amongst a fickle and often emotional public.

The people have been heard in California. For better or worse, they elected Davis. Lousy he may be, but living with a lousy politician should be the price you pay for voting for him in the first place. It isn't as if they didn't have anything to work with when voting for him -- he'd been governor for a term already.

The only procedure for removing elected officials should be impeachment. Impeachment should only be permissable for accusing an official of breaking the law.

As a side note, Impeachment of the President should be the only legal procedure with any right to hold sway over the sitting President. Hence, Clinton should've been impeachable for lying -- but at the same time, he never should have been subject to giving a deposition in that lawsuit that started everything. The only court which should be able to compel a sitting president to give sworn testimony is a court formulated by the House (or is it a combined House-Senate thing?) for the purpose of going forward with a criminal case against the President. Which they probably wouldn't bother doing with a sexual harassment / assault case based on (at the time) the word of an accuser and no physical evidence.

Redstick, whether you like recall laws or not. It is the law of California.

I support the decisions of the people not the politicians!

Most people I know want McClintock but because they are worried they'll be wasting their vote (mainly because no one thinks he can win it) they are voting for Arnold... if only to keep Bust A Gutt Monte out of office...

Sad when you have to vote for choice #2 only to defeat #3

I'm just glad I got out of there when I did...

Davis sold off the power supplies, doubling to quadrupling energy rates for Californians, tripled registration for cars, is trying to make it LEGAL and EASY for illegal aliens to obtain driver licenses (something most states will regard as legal residency)..

I'm still trying to figure out how Davis got IN TO office.. I didn't like him when he was State Controller (see he has experience fixing Californias books)

Sheesh. I'm surprised at this board's response....Bustamante and McClintock neck and neck?!? From what I've read in the past on this board, I expected McClintock to run away with it.

I'm still trying to figure out how Davis got IN TO office..
And I'm wondering how he was ever [i]reelected[/].

California electing and then re-electing Davis is living proof of what drugs can do to your brain :D

I still think Arnold wins cause those that want McClintock are afraid its a wasted vote...

vote the lesser of the evils and at least Arnie won't be given out drivers licenses to illegals and selling off the resources...

this is why I HATE the lotto... 30 years and nothings changed, the schools are still falling apart, the states a mess and people who dont speak english keep winning millions
