View Full Version : If your dog played football.....

what position would he/she play?

My bulldog would be a run-stopping DT! He takes up a lot of space, he's hard to move. Of course, he would have to be in a rotation because he gets tired easily! He might be able to go 2 plays in a row. :D

Well I have 4 mutts but if I had to chose one I would chose my German Shepard/Blue Heeler ( who knows what else) mix. He is 1 1/2 years old and weighs about 80 lbs. He is always trying to jump on you if you sit down and chew on you, just a crazy dog, so I would say linebacker.

Pepper would be a WR because of his lanky legs (Although they aren't shown in this picture)

In her day, Ruby would have been a DE/LB. Good size for a dog, but not the biggest. Good speed, but not the fastest. Try to run away from her carrying a ball and you're going down.

Sadly, though, these days Ruby's hips wouldn't last a series.

Yep, that's my heeler's personality to a t, that's why they would make good "Roy-back" types. By the way, it's heeler, not healer, because they're Australian cattle dogs and when working livestock they innately go for the animals' heels. They make a lot of "shoe-string tackles" this way. :texan:

I'd put my doberman, Nero, at strong safety. At 110 lbs. and as fast and strong as he is, no one would cross his path. Unless they had a squeek toy. He's scared to death of them! Oh, and he hates water, and the cold and trains... and the lawnmower, and the garage lamp. Some guard dog! But he is tough as nails with other dogs, and he looks mean as hell. Couldn't put him on "O", he can't catch for shiite. Smart as anything though, I could probably teach him to call plays from the sideline.

He might swallow the ball though. And we might want to get the chearleader dogs fixed. Do I really need to explain?

Boomer is definitely a Safety. My neighbor and I were running pass patterns in the yard and Boomer loves to chase any ball. His eyes were fixed on the football at all times. When my neighbor would throw to me, everytime he said, "Hike" Boomer would blitz like a madman and jump for the ball. He would have to get rid of the ball in 2 seconds flat. Everytime I was QB, Boomer would drop back in zone coverage and wait for me to throw the ball to my neighbor, and would attack the ball. He's a football dog for sure.

Alright I did some research (I probably have better things to do but...). and here's what we need, looking at size, strength, and basic ability and from some of your thoughts:

QB- Border Collie -He's smart damn it!
HB- Rhodesian Ridgeback or Anatolan Shephard
FB- American Bulldog or Agentinian Mastiff
WR- Irish Wolfhounds and Deerhounds- Fast, great endurance and they are tall as hell.
TE- Great Dane
T- St. Bernard
G- Bull Mastiff
C- Fila -defines big-ugly.

DT- APBT (Pit) This is how I've heard people discribe Lynn McGruder. Just sayin'.
DE- Akitas
OLB- Rotweilers -need I explain?
MLB- Cane Corso -one of the meanest dogs I have ever seen.
CB- Retreivers (that says it all doesn't it?)
FS- Doberman
SS- German Shephard

Referees- Basset hound, Bloodhound, Foxhound
Team managers- Weiner dog, Pug

Coach- Tosa Inu (if you don't know look it up, this one ought to keep everyone else in line)

Of course we need 2nd teams and Special teams but my dog won't do a damn thing I say! I yell punt and he just rolls over! This may take a while...

Ok, I was trying to decide if my new dog had a place on the team. I know my old cockers would be sitting in the old alum section, to weary to play ball anymore.

However,
<<<<<<<<<<<< the new dog is all full of **** and vinegar. I know he doesnt look like he can play with the big dogs, but remember Q. I think Rufus can juke and jive his way inbetween the taller heavier dogs we will face in the oppostion backfield. Im not too impressed with his catching ability yet, as turkey will hit the floor before he grabs it. (not so with the old cockers, but you gotta aim pretty close for them, but they can catch the turkey on the fly.)

I have witnessed him grab one of the old cockers and not let go, so Im thinking maybe on the punt team as a gunner??? I doubt he is heavy enough to make a tackle by himself, but he is fast and agile enough to get to the punt returner and latch on, perhaps slowing them down enough until a heavy weight shows up to finish off the tackle.

I also discussed the possibilty of redshirting with him, spend a year bulking up, training hard, working on his catching ability. He can already vertical leap his body height,(however, compared to some of the dog starters on this team that would only be shoulder height on them), so maybe a "rocket" wr is in his future. We'll see how hard he hits the weight room this spring, I guess.

My sheltie (is that how you spell it???) never quite got the whole "fetch" thing down, she always grabs and runs with thrown or kicked objects... I present a Sheltie Antonio Perkins!!!

my black lab has got good quickness, and speed. i see him as a rb, not in the AD mold mind you, more of the Q mold w/ longer legs.

i'd have to say my white female pit would play the roy position. she's stout enough to play the run but could easily run stride for stride with ted ginn, jr.

she's just a faster TRRW.

My black lab kills cats. She'd make a good opposing coach. Maybe a DC since you couldn't let her on the field with the kitties.
