Well, so far it's kind of fun. Except my laptop keeps shutting down while I play it. I've got more than enough computing power and RAM to run it, so I'm not real sure what's happening-possibly the laptop is overheating, so I've removed the battery to see if that helps.

I just got back from my friend's house. He made lamb for like 10 people and we had a dinner party of sorts. We had about 4 bottles of wine, and after dinner a couple of us went to a liquor store (before it closed) and bought 7 bottles of wine plus two bottles of sauvignon blanc from my house.... And we drank them all. 10 people... 13 bottles.

If you really want to use something that won't screw with the computer resources, try LaTeX (pronounced Lay-tek). For windows I think you have to get it in a package called MikTeX. The awesome thing about TeX is that you can pick up a manual for it from the 80's and it still works the same way. The bad thing about it is that it has a slightly steep learning curve. It's pretty easy to pick up for standard word processing, but it doesn't have such a simple interface. It's essentially writing code that tells the computer exactly how you want your document rendered. Its also so well entrenched in some circles that it will never become obsolete. In the sciences (or at least in physics), it is almost exclusively what is used for the publication of papers.

Can you break it out into chapter documents? That way if something happens to a file, it's "only" a chapter rather than the whole dang book. If you need to send the whole thing, just zip it up and mail away. :)
