I switched from electric to shaving with an old-school safety razor about a year ago. It takes longer, but I get a WAY better shave, and the process is actually somewhat enjoyable now.

Dude, sweet! So, I had e-mailed the two biggest wigs with the Wichita Opera after I played there a week and a half ago. You know, the standard "thanks for calling me to play, call me again anytime" kind of routine. So I happened to throw in there that if they ever need an assistant conductor or anything to give me a call since I'm nearly done with a conducting graduate degree.

Well, the other day I got an e-mail back from the Pres/CEO of the opera, and he asked me to send him resume, repertoire list, video of me conducting, etc. (pretty standard requests if you were applying for a conducting job). I sent him everything but the video, told him I could have that for him at the end of the week since I just had a concert here and I need to get the files of that edited before I can send it.

Today he already e-mailed me back and asked me to give him a call at the end of the week. This could be win.

Heh. short version: I had mentioned to the guy that I'm also a conductor if he ever needs an assistant conductor for a show or something. He asked for my resume, video of me conducting, etc. I sent all that and he's been calling me back and forth since then.

This last time he said he's thinking about "taking a chance" on me to "see if I'm the guy." Anyway, he threw me a lot of details about where he wants to go with the Opera's season-finale outdoor concert on the lake. (Big deal. Free concert, thousands show up.)

So he told me sort of what he wants to do with it, says "think about it, if you have any big ideas call me back before Monday, that's when I'm going to be making my decisions for that concert, and if I like your idea we might just go with it and I can let you conduct the concert to see how good you are."

So, he sort of threw down a gauntlet to see what I can do. Concert would be in three weeks. ;)

Pfft. I've substituted half-and-half any number of times for creme fraiche in all kinds of recipes (most notably my famous Steak au Poivre). Just because you don't know how to substitute....;)

(Seriously, just reduce half-and-half by about a quarter. It makes an acceptable substitute for creme fraiche.)
