Baylor's top running back arrested for marijuana in Tillman County
By KSWO Staff

FREDERICK, OK (KSWO) -Baylor University's top running back was arrested Friday morning in Tillman County for marijuana possession.
Baylor running back Devin Chafin and his passenger, Jennifer Kerr, were arrested after Tillman County Sheriff Bobby Whittington stopped them on Highway 70, 13 miles west of Grandfield. Sheriff Whittington says they found several pill bottles filled with marijuana and a couple of bags filled with marijuana candy that looks like lemon drops, which has a high THC content.
Sheriff Whittington said it started with just a simple stop for speeding, but he quickly realized something was wrong with the pair.
"He was exhibiting signs of either being extremely tired or under the influence of an intoxicant, whether it be alcohol or marijuana. And the odor of the marijuana was pretty evident," Sheriff Whittington said.
Sheriff Whittington says the pair bought the marijuana in Colorado over spring break. In all, they had at least four or five grams.

In a statement, Baylor football coach Art Briles said he has suspended Chafin ''until further information is gathered.'' (probably until practice starts in the fall)

The senior from Burkburnett, Texas, ran for 578 yards and nine touchdowns on 121 carries in 10 games last season. In 30 career games, he averages 5 yards per carry.

On a related note, this is an old article from last September. More recently, today actually, it was reported that the state of Oregon pulled in $3.5 million in tax revenue from pot sales for the month of January. They are not just "on" something in Colorado and Oregon, they on to something. And that lawsuit, Nebraska and Oklahoma suing Colorado, that's a joke. But once more, Oklahomans will be damned before they allow a vice in their state. If you aren't old enough to remember, ask about the history of alcohol sales in Oklahoma for a case study in government ineptitude.

Colorado Raised More Tax Revenue From Marijuana Than From Alcohol

Pot is a boon for tax revenues in Colorado, outpacing revenue from alcohol taxes in the fiscal year ending on June 30.

Colorado collected almost $70 million in marijuana taxes during that time, nearly double the $42 million collected from alcohol taxes. The state had a tax holiday for marijuana on Wednesday, an event that was welcomed by consumers and producers alike.

The sales tax holiday underscores the sheer productivity of marijuana taxes, Mason Tvert, director of communications for the Marijuana Policy Project, told the Colorado Spring Business Journal.

“Marijuana taxes have been incredibly productive over the past year, so this tax holiday is a much-deserved day off,” Tvert said. “This will be the one day out of the year when the state won’t generate significant revenue. Over the other 364 days, it will bring in tens of millions of dollars that will be reinvested in our state.”

Tvert’s prediction isn’t an exaggeration, as Colorado’s data indicated that the 10% retail tax on marijuana and 15% excise tax for large wholesale weed has been fruitful.

On the state’s one-day tax holiday, shoppers saved about $20 an ounce on Wednesday, but distributors saved roughly $300 a pound, with one grower telling ABC he “probably saved $45,000 before lunch.”
