No. Have Joe Mixon himself make a public apology to the girl and to the school, fans, public, etc.

That didn't happen. What we got was:

-Joe back on the squad after six months, going through spring ball...this was the "year" suspension from the team. No loss of eligibility.
-Joe on twitter talking about "haters" before the season. Not exactly contrite.
-Joe not answering questions about the incident during the playoff media/athletic department intervenes. Local press might tolerate it; came off bad to the national press.

They've acted all along like they have something to hide - which, of course, they do. But, instead of play circle-the-wagons, they should publicly played up an apology. So simple.

Politicians are good at two things:
-Getting into trouble
-Getting out of trouble

The difference between ones that stay long are the ones who know how to get out of trouble once they are in trouble. Here, is where Boren failed. The story will not die because he didn't bury it with some simple public humility.

By choosing the circle-the-wagons strategy of reaction, he opened up the inevitable possibility that this thing would come up over and over and over again.

And, now 18 months later, the cat is way out of the bag on what the national media/public will brook as far as college athletes and the girls they assault. It's 180 degrees different now that it was on July 25, 2014.

You can't kick the can down the road on a thing like this and expect it to disappear.

The guy was deaf about the band director problem until it came to a head, and woefully wrong about the Nazi stolen art. He is wrong in playing PR cover up with Mixon as well. It's not working with anyone outside of some of the OU supporters.

Sickening.
