It appears he died suddenly today in Waco.

Way too young.

Was always odd how we ended up agreeing on as much as we did.

Isn't Type 1 the childhood disorder; not the lifestyle related disorder?

Isn't Type 1 the childhood disorder; not the lifestyle related disorder? Accurate. And, Type 1 diabetics can be very frail or "brittle" as their blood sugar is much more volatile than Type 2.

Wow, what shocking and tragic news. I just dropped by for a second and saw this. Never met him in person, but it almost seemed like I knew him well since he held strong views and was somewhat a fixture. God Bless...

i'll miss his posts as they were almost always thought provoking.

For those that believe in reincarnation, he was clearly a returning confederate solder's soul. He'll be back - RIP until then.

As I said elsewhere:
I am also shocked and sad. Though I typically found his politics infuriating and delusional (like I probably find most of yours!), I always knew he was a good guy (like you probably are, too). Some time ago we talked about meeting for a drink if he came to New Orleans. (Assuming he could find the place -- his wrong way trip story was epic stuff.) I guess I'll have to have one for him now.
Requiescat in pace, Sic 'Em.

I haven't come here in a while. I came to see what SicEm had to say about Rand Paul dropping out of the race. I thought for sure this thread was about that, and it took reading 3 or 4 posts before I realized this wasn't a play on words.

Crazy. RIP.

"Holy Sonnet X"
Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and souls deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better than thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more, Death, thou shalt die.

-------------John Donne

Haven't been on in awhile. Wow, that is sad, sad news. Life is fragile indeed. Seen way to many people that I thought were relatively healthy and then they're gone. Many thoughts and prayers to his family. Had a lot respect for him.

Thanks for the link. I did not know he was a WWII history buff, I wish I knew that. I would have liked to have talked to him about that as my father landed on Omaha Beach (Dog sector?, I think...) in his LST.

"... preceded in death by his material grandfather ..."

Who writes these things? I guess they do them on cell phones now?

Sicem would be furious

One of the great regrets of my life is not learning more from my dad about his time in the Navy in WWII. I've since learned that reticence about those experiences is common among those who served.

Much respect to your father for his service.

One of the great regrets of my life is not learning more from my dad about his time in the Navy in WWII. I've since learned that reticence about those experiences is common among those who served. Much respect to your father for his service. Thanks much! He would never speak of his time there or in the Pacific theater. He would speak of his duties (he was a Yeoman and the ship's Paymaster, his battle station was a twin 50-cal.), they had tanks and trucks they off loaded on the first landing and after that they ferried supplies to France and German prisoners and wounded back to the UK. Pretty much sums up what he told us. All of his friends that I got to know were the same way, never spoke about it, something they had to do.
