The way Stanford is putting the hurt on Iowa I might put
them #3 and if Bama thumps Clemson, maybe #2. OU is
top 5....imo

Hard to compare teams that made the CFP vs other bowls as the motivations are so much different. We held up better than MSU did is about all I can say - hard to care what the final rankings end up. OU will get respect.

BS79, gotta point this out about the final rankings...all the "experts"
that do the rankings will look very closely next year when they start
all their rankings, which have huge impact with the committee when
they start all their machinations, so yeah, imo, final rankings matter.

MSU and Iowa got and are getting their collective clocks cleaned in a
most pristine manner!

Geez, McCaffrey is a piece of work!

I have to disagree. The committee does it right and doesn't publish a ranking
until mid-season a fair amount of things having been determined on the field.
If we're undefeated by the first ranking with wins over Houston and tOSU, I'd
guess we would start out in the top spot or close to it. Big if though. The preseason
"popularity" poles will all have us top 5* when they look at returning starters and
2-deep.

*barring a Bomar-ish off season

8 def starters back...? Tapper, Striker, Sanchez gone (Bond..semi-starter..Shannon, Lindley, Tate)
7 off starters back...? Darlington, Shepard, Neal, Kasitati gone (St.John, Knight)

that's a good start.
