I saw this. Not sure what to make of it since Mayfield is the man. http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=31000&ATCLID=210599187

Ya, but most likely Mayfield only has one year left, and Kyler would have to sit out (redshirt) next year anyway. Then would have 3 years left...if I am not mistaken.

I agree. There will be no doubt that Mayfield is the man when Kyler comes here in the Spring. I think it is great there will be more QB competition in the next 2-3 years. Hopefully Kyler studies and developes into his full potential.

Of course Murray is aware of the current QB situation - I'm sure that's why OU was high on his list of schools. I sure hope all the drama at aTm is due to the program and not coming from Murray. The public reports make it sound like he is a prima donna - but I'm sure the fans down there will spin it that way since he is leaving. I *really* hope this doesn't cause Austin Kendall to waiver on his verbal to OU. He has to know there will be competition coming to a program like OU.

Ever since the qb defections began in College Station Teddy has talked about this kid being a self-absorbed head case.

Time will tell ,I sure didn't see Mayfield as a starter when he transferred ,so who knows about Murray?

Murray is very talented. He can make all the throws and is a dangerous runner, but he is 5'8" and 165. I don't care what the Aggie program says. His durability would be my concern.

Well, we know for sure that Stoops won't coddle him or allow his Dad to interfere in the program. I'm sure the coaches know more about what led up to this transfer and what they are getting than we do.

5'8" and 165? That's about 8 inches and 60 pounds short of being what we need in a QB, just sayin' . . .

Where does 5' 8" come from? Shows to be 5' 11"

It's silly to think that Bob will coddle him and let him interfere with our program. It's also silly to think LR can't do something with this talent.

I'd agree that this might not end as wildly positive as some hope, but it's hard to see it as a negative.

After watching Kyler in HS, I wanted him at OU really bad. Now I have mixed emotions about it, but he's young and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Welcome Kyler!

If he's Russell Wilson size (5'11''), no problem.

Isn't Drew Brees like 5'10"?

And, I'm assuming Sumlin and Stoops are still close. That just makes it more weird, unless A&M is just going a different direction on offense or something

papawlambert

I have stood next to him and visited with him last year. I'm 5'10" and he is shorter than I. Did he not sign a baseball scholarship? Will he have to sit before playing baseball?

Very true. Not sure what their relationship is like these day, but Stoops is good at keeping it professional. Think they had a little chat regarding a swapping Kyler for Trevor? :) I'm still much more excited to get Austin Kendall on board.

Im pretty sure since he played this year that after he sits out the Year he will only have 2 years of eligibility left

I thought they said this next year would be his redshirt year, thus giving him 3 starting in 2017

That's what I've read. It's not like the Mayfield situation where Baker transferred in conference. aTm gave Murray a full release with conditions (outside the SEC and no scheduled opponents). So Murray really doesn't lose anything except that he is forced to redshirt which he probably should have done anyway.

Hell I dont know, If thats the case then why does he "HAVE" to sit out a year?
Like has been said Prolly not a Bad idea, But Im thinkin also like JKM this dude too small to be a D-1 QB

I'm kinda curious on why we took him. Lot of negative stuff out there about him etc. which may or may not be accurate. However if there is any truth to those rumors it doesn't seem like the kind of guy they need on the team.

His size looks to be problematic as well. We have a bunch of tall lineman and though he may be able to hide behind them nicely, seeing to throw the ball is going to be an issue.

Guess we'll get a front row seat to see how this one is going to play out.

The problem is his dad. He apparently would invade practices and yell at the coaches about his son having 2nd and 3rd string receivers to throw too. I watched him play and his lack of height was painfully obvious as he had to find windows to throw through. This guy is easily 6 inches shorter than any starter at QB we've had since Brandon Daniels.

It's an NCAA transfer rule and it's a good rule. He'll be a RSsoph in 2017...

His ears are too small. He won't be able to hear the play call.

Murray just turned 18 last August. I was the same, always the youngest player on the team. It does make a difference in most cases. I'm just gonna trust Coach Stoops & Riley on this one as far as his attitude goes. He's a very talented player...

Pretty safe move for OU. A full year of being a student and practice player while red-shirting to see if he'll fit in a be a team player. Certainly worth a scholly to keep a 5 star recruit on retainer.

Compared to Shannon, Mixon, and especially DGB, keeping Murray around seems like a walk in the park.
