Nebraska, Minnesota and San Jose State will be playing in bowl games with 5-7 records.

Championship Saturday began with 75 bowl-eligible teams and two more teams got there, three short of what was needed to fill a record 80 bowl games.

Kansas State took care of business by beating West Virginia 24-23 to finish 6-6. Georgia State, in its sixth season playing Division I football, beat Sun Belt Conference rival Georgia Southern 34-7 for its sixth victory.

South Alabama fell short of six, though, losing 34-27 to Appalachian State.

That makes 77 teams with at least six victories and a .500 record, the minimum to be eligible for a bowl bid.

Dang, I was kind of hoping the horn fans would endure the embarrassment of a 5-7 bowl invite. Oh well, best to keep them down by the lack of bowl practice.

And here are the losers:

Georgia State (6-6) plays San Jose State in the Cure Bowl.

Central Michigan (7-5) plays Minnesota in the Quick Lane Bowl.

UCLA (8-4) plays Nebraska in the Foster Farms Bowl.

Let's face it, while it could be seen as a positive thing for Georgia State and Central Michigan to play in a bowl game no matter who the opponent may be, poor UCLA is in the classic no-win situation.

They will gain zero respectability beating the nebbish but it's an omfg moment for the bruins if they lose.

There will probably be that many in a few years.

There shouldn't even be 6-6 teams in bowl games, Now we got 5-7 teams in bowls, but it's an "if you have fun, you won" society.

Meh, garbage bowl games are still fun to watch

It's easy to look down at the ****ty toilet bowl teams when you expect to be competing for nattys every year.

It's been a while since we were in the weedeater bowl, and were excited about it.

Just reminds me of the all-too commonplace act of awarding every kid a trophy that participates...

Does this mean that Texas gets to go, too?
