And the great part of that is, it wouldn't even be the worst bowl name!

Ew. I hadn't noticed that. Gah, that sucks. Were the semis played on NYE last year, too? I guess I tuned out with how horrible our season ended and no XII representative.

More fun.

Forty bowl games require eighty teams to play butn the required 6-win mark has been reached by only seventy-five teams, so far, thus raising the issue of allowing some teams with a 5-7 record play a bowl game.

Of those teams:

Missouri, with a retired coach and no replacement named as of this post, has chosen to preemptively remove their team from consideration.

Over at Nebraska, the AD has decided to vacate a provision in the coaches' contracts that would give them a bonus if they make it to a bowl game.

This seems assured since the NCAA decided the criteria for determining which 5-7 teams get invited to post season play will be based on their Academic Progress Rate, and the huskers are at the top of the list.

Down at Austin, sa*et's Charlie Strong, currently 5-6, does not want to field questions about accepting a 5-7 bid since such talk could distract his team from preparing for their final game with Baylor.

Kansas State is in the same situation and is also in position to go bowling should they finish at 5-7. Bill Snyder said he would let the players decide on Sunday.

San Jose State, next in line on the APR scale, has indicated they would accept a bid.

No word yet from other teams that would qualify, Minnesota, Illinois or Rice.

Say whaaa? whorn has 4 wins, sitting at 4-7, with virtually zero chance of winning Saturday. So there will be no entertaining 5-win bowls for Strong, whether he wants to or not.

There was an article about the bowls in the Austin American Statesman today.
The Pinstripe Bowl is being played in Yankee Stadium between Indiana and Duke.

"So two basketball schools are playing a football game in a baseball stadium."
