Figured the few of us that give a rat's a$$ about bball can post about the games this year here.

Watched the Washburn exh.

Good - new guys played well. Our 2 wings seem to fit in nicely for Buddy and Cousins. Post presence was ok. I thought vs Washburn we'd really have the adv but really didn't see it live...need to look at stats. 2nd half was much better defensively. We will run this year and looks like we have some depth.

Bad - Again, figured post would be a much improved strength, again, need to look at stats. Didn't see the 7fter in...was in sweats, GF and her mom were talking when I heard the TV mention something as to why...didn't catch it.

2nd Pre-season game
Featured former asst coach as the HC, and a walk-on at OU transferred to the small NAIA school.

Good - hit close to 100, think we laid off the gas pedal could have been 112+ if we went hard the whole time and left starters in.

Fr guards played ok, not as well as the last game. McNeace did well...he'll be a good one. Coach K started him in 2nd half in place of Lattin. Buddy 20+ good % shot well.

Bad - gave up a ton of 3's...Cousin kind of got a little crazy (old ways) with a possession...not too bad. Never really "put them away"..but again, not sure that wasn't Coach K's decision.

ugly - turnovers...8 the first half...stupid things.

Overall another game to see a lot of time for the 2nd teamers, but I'd say we should go almost 10 deep...especially late in the season. Future looks really bright.

We open up on the road @ Memphis Tuesday Night! We need to take advantage of the TV audience and get a key win.

yes, Tues is HUGE...I hate to say that, but damn, every other top 10 team played some cupcake and won 20+ from what I remember. I guess I just want a win..1 point is fine. Keeps everyone grounded.

My son plays baseball at Coffeyville CC, we just signed their PG for next year. I was hoping they would play JUCO's here in KC, so I could go watch but but for some reason the schools in KC are D2 in basketball, but D1 in baseball...even from the same conf...ugh. CCC also has a 7fter from Okla a freshman...so maybe a little pipeline.

You'd be right, with the exception of Pitt/Gonzaga all the other games were total mismatches.

Interesting. Like to see us reaching into various areas outside of Tx and Ok. Just have to scout well.

Halftime, 42-41. Not our best half.

Killed on the offensive boards 12-4, and 10 turnovers. Need to clean it up. Also 13-7 in the fouls.

Hield leads all with 14, Spangler 6pts 7rbs, Woodard 5/4/4 assists. Couple of nice surprises by Freshman off the bench. James 7pts 1 rb, Buford 3pts, 4 rbs. Lattin non-existent in the first half with 2 fouls.

Pretty simple, Offensive has played well, but need to cleanup the turnovers and get better on the O-boards.

Hate to say it but similar flaws to last season, Spangler not very athletic and Cousins is shaky in key situations. It's still early and James looks solid but Thomas was a skilled big and not sure if Buford is there yet.

I cant complain when we play that poorly and still win. Well, i could but this early in the season its more important to get the team "game fit" and familiar with each other. In lon i trust. Season on!

I'll take it for sure. We played a pretty decent opponent, on the Road and won. Got alot of stuff to cleanup but as stated, I'll take it as well.

We were a little ragged which could be expected to some extent but the play in post both offensively and defensively leaves a lot to be desired. I am curious why Manyang didn't get any minutes.

I expect he'll see the floor over the next couple games vs McNeese St and Incarnate Word. I'd like to see lineups of the young guys, see how they play together.

34-19 OU @ half. Very clean game. Few fouls or turnovers. OU very average shooting. Wisconsin has been cold but some of it is due to the fact OU has played petty sound defense. So far OU has played much better in the paint than previously. First half take is OU is beating Wisconsin at their own game.

Yes wisky doesnt traditionally play the prettiest ball, but bo ryan elevated that program to an elite level. He may be gone but still a great win. If we finish it.

Man ugly game but it still counts as a win! Like to see Cousins get into a better rhythm and the free throw shooting needs to improved. Turnovers were down which was very good.

I had a little different take on the game. I know from a first take it might seem we were lethargic but I don't think that was the case. We seemed fully engaged on defense. Very few clean easy buckets for the Badgers. They shot 33 - 3 pointers, of which very few were toe up to the line wide open looks and a lot of the reason they put up so many 3 pointers in the first place was because they could get so little going on the inside.

Offensively we were very deliberate. More so than I can ever remember of this team. Seemed like unless there was absolutely clear sailing to the bucket we were content to set up and run our offense. I know Fraschilla said this was a pretty weak effort but it seemed more like a well executed game plan. If it wasn't maybe it should be. 5 turnovers isn't a mark of a team that is phoning it in. It looked like we really valued the basketball. I don't remember one silly turnover.

If I had any gripes it would be giving up way too many O-rebounds. Locking down on the perimeter you can expect to maybe give up a few extra rebounds but Wisconsin getting 22 O-rebounds is just too many.

All in all a really good game for OU.

yup got to agree....I thought very good game.

Spang was killing it. IF he can continue to hit the 3 with some regularity...it'll open up the lane big time. Very solid win. The only issue is Badgers are not very "athletic" I think that dictated our game plan as well. We ran when we could...slowed it down when we needed. The d rebounding was an issue, gave up too many o rebounds for them.

I like the bench and rotation...Walker is playing really well.

Good to see that if Buddy isn't scoring we have others.

Wisky wasn't the same without their 2 players who are now in the NBA. Makes since.

I liked the commentator's observation that this season Bo Ryan is changing diapers.

Glad that the depth is seeing quality minutes and not just mop up PT.

lol, never? I know he hit a few last year. I'm pretty sure he thinks he's the 4th or 5th option in scoring. He loves to rebound and be the "force". I'd like him to take his shots when he's open...he did a good job of knowing when to pull up and when to drive the lane.

Def Badgers are young. I just didn't understand their post play. Ya got 3 post guys, then one needs to play high...basically kept them low, but what do I know.

Def glad the staff is playing the bench. I'm sure come conf time it'll squeeze down, but I like the fact Buddy and the starters are only getting about 25 min a game now.

I'm gonna try to see as many games around Christmas when they come back as I can. Sharif Arena is never packed.

Nothing like a good live game. Look for me. I'll be wearing red. LOL.

LOTS of great things...course it should be. Woodard is fitting in well to the 2 spot. Lots of minutes for everyone. Nice to know AGAIN, we have multiple scorers on the team.

Manyang continues to get minutes and getting better, 11 pts, 6 boards 4 blocks in 15 minutes. Nice to have his presence in the middle. Still seems a little "less athletic" than some other big men, but I believe by conf end he might just turn some heads.

up next Nova..should be a great test.

Honestly, I remember the days when we'd not even have 10 guys suited up, let alone play. Nice to see 8-9 extra bodies on the bench. with 4-5 THAT can play

As of this writing, (OU just smacked Oral Roberts), I'm impressed and amazed at OU's 3 point percentage, especially by Spangler.

I hope it continues throughout the season.

Good to know we've got 5 min guys....Buddy, Cousins, Woodard, Spang and Walker who can hit it.

Walker has played very well in my opinion. Under control, takes decent open shots, doesn't force a lot.

Frosh didn't do much today. Manyang...hmmm, he just looks uncoordinated. I'm hoping that's due to him being sidelined for the last few months. Just not as dominating as he should be at his size.

As the announcers said, it was a quiet 96 points.

You could tell there in the first half we stopped passing as much, we def need to pass 4 or 5 times get easy open shots, even 3's.

I'd love to see our 'bigs' develop a bit more. There are several guys who can penetrate and dish it outside for a '3' once the defense collapses or alley oop it to a big, but someone besides Spangler needs to step up more if the outside game goes cold.

We gave them more open looks from the 3 point line than any game so far this year but for the most part OU made it really tough in the paint for Creighton. A lot of blocked shots. Offensively OU didn't bring their A-game but all in all a good win against a very solid team.

Was talking to a woman whose son is in the pep band for Wazzu (OU's first opponent in the Hawaii tourney). She was crowing and said they are good at blocking shots.
I looked it up and the Cougs are 2nd nationally at 7.3 blocks per game. They have a 7 footer and two 6'10" guys. As a team they also have a high FG %. around 50%. Of course, they haven't played anyone besides Gonzaga which they lost by about 10.
Could be a good game.

Also in the Sooner's bracket is Northern Iowa who beat #1 North Carolina and #6 Iowa State.
