Beamer announced his retirement after this season tonight.

Where will that leave Stoops on the active HC longevity list?

Will Sooner nation retire Bob at the end of this season too when they just can't get over the butthurt of the horns loss?

Beamer retires after 35 seasons and currently with 276 wins.

Among active coaches, this is what I found (ranked by wins).

Coach - Seasons - Wins

1. Brian Kelly - 26 - 222

2. Dennis Franchione - 30 - 212

3. Bill Snyder - 24 - 190

3. Gary Pinkel - 25 - 190

5. Nick Saban - 20 - 189

6. Bob Stoops - 17 - 174

Terry Bowden and Tommy Tuberville have more years than Stoops but fewer wins.

Looks like Stoops is the longest, active tenure at 1 job since Snyder took a little hiatus.

Given the disparity in their ages it does seem strange. Note that Kelly's first HC stint was with Grand Valley State, wherever/whatever that is, in 1991 when he was 30 years old, and he has been employed as a head coach continuously without a break unlike Snyder.

Snyder became a head coach at the age of 50, only 2 years before Kelly, in 1989.

VT Head Coach Brent Venables?

Possibly. But with the stellar job Brent has done at Clemsony, I bet he could write his ticket anywhere after this year. He's the "Bob Stoops" of 1998: Young but highly seasoned, highly successful assistant contending for national championships. USC would do well to cast an eye in his direction.

The last thing I would want to see is him landing in the Big 12....say, Texas.
