View Full Version : Cheerleading Talent

It seems there's a dearth of cheerleading talent across much of the Big XII purely from an aesthetic point of view. Let me say something that may not be overly popular with some: cheerleaders at the collegiate level should be chosen entirely based upon their looks after it's confirmed they have the most basic rudimentary cheerleading skills. Nobody is interested in the cheerleaders because of their athletic ability. The only purpose they serve is to engage the crowd and look good on camera. This bull**** that cheerleading is a sport is pure nonsense. Lines those ladies up and put them on the field based upon their looks and boob sizes. /soapbox.

Now fess up folks, how many of you go to the game to see the athletic gyrations of the cheerleaders. I think it's other "gyrations" you focus on. And who the heck can hear 'em anyway?

SicEm should love Big 12 cheerleaders -- I bet they'd take photos with him and actually talk to him. Actual college age girls, SicEm! You don't even have to promise a big tip at the restaurant for that kind of attention!

Exactly. What other purpose do cheerleaders serve at the game aside from being eye candy and pumping up the crowd (which itself is partly due to the fact they are eye candy).

Let's be honest with ourselves -- nobody cares about how athletic these girls are. They need to be enthusiastic, cute, and capable of some basic cheerleading moves. That's it. If the choice is between someone who is hot but an average cheerleader or a fugly girl with amazing cheerleading/athletic ability -- go with the hot one.

Disagree, that's what the Pom squad is for. Pom is all eye candy. Cheerleaders are legit athletes. We've won nationals the last 3 years I believe and those girls are legit.

Cowboy. Legit athletes rarely wear chaps over bikini bottoms. Unless you'd include pole dancing as a sport.
And, come to think of it, I would.
Hell, With the Olympics in Brazil this next year we should all work hard to include it as a demonstration event!

I'm not saying cheerleaders aren't athletes. I'm not even saying they shouldn't compete in competitions. I'm saying they shouldn't be chosen for sideline duty based on their athleticism. It should be based on their looks.

That's our Pom squad and no athletic gene is required. Just need to be able to look good and dance.

Again, I think you are mixing cheerleading and Pom up. Pom I agree that looks should be the majority of the reason, but cheer should be about technicalities and being able to do all the hand springs and all that stuff.

I get what you're saying. Whether they be pom-pom girls or cheerleaders, the talent on the sideline needs to be chosen based on looks and cup size.

Just a quick aside:

My wife's high school cheerleading squad had 2 men that are now women. Not to say that all male cheerleaders are "light in the loafers" (far from it since some are athletic), but it does make you wonder.

Indeed. Although, I don't have a huge problem with a couple of male cheerleaders on the squad as long as it's just a couple. They do have a utilitarian purpose of holding their female counterparts above their head -- that takes strength.

I'd guess 90% of them are gay, but that's just a guess. We had two male cheerleaders when I was a freshman in HS, but neither of them were gay -- they definitely groped, handled, and slept with more girls than I did in HS.

My guess is that if you are a non-gay male cheerleader there is lots of action to be had.

In my days at OU ('74-78), the cheerleaders were 'meh'. And nobody cared. They would use sort of an on-field PA system to reach the crowd, with speakers up on poles in the student section. It was good sport to turn the speakers back towards the field.

I even remember one year when somebody had proposed doing away with the whole cheerleading program and the cheer folks turned out with signs reading "Without cheerleaders, it's only a game." That was promptly met with signs: "Yes, and we'd still play it anyway." Good times.

My wife always gets mad at me when a newscaster comes on that is not attractive. "Hey look, a face made for radio." She says it doesn't matter, but I say that I want to look at pretty gals, and there are lots of pretty gals that can read news. Why in the world hire an ugly one?

This same principal applies to cheerleaders.

My name is Big Tip and I support this thread.
