Jarvis Baxter gets scholarship

Baxter came to Oklahoma this summer after Lincoln Riley was hired. Riley recruited Baxter when he was at East Carolina and he was also friends with Dede Westbrook, another Sooner receiver who transferred to Norman this season.

“Jarvis might have a bad minute,” said Brad Smiley, Baxter’s coach at Trinity Valley the past two years, “but he’s never had a bad day.”

“That’s the beautiful thing about Jarvis,” said Kendall Miller, Baxter’s coach at Lakeview Centennial. “He gets up with a smile on his face.”

“He never had a problem or an attitude,” said Javon Holloway, Baxter’s Pop Warner coach in Seatack. “He’d respect you. ‘Yes, sir.’ ‘Yes, ma’am.’ That sort of thing.”

“That’s just how I am. I didn’t really know any better,” Baxter said. “I didn’t have a father around. Me and my mom struggled. The kids in my neighborhood were getting into trouble everywhere they went. Me, I just decided that my personality needed to be different than everybody else’s.

Great story! Gives me faith in the direction of OU's programs when they can get POSITIVE people. I am so-o-o tired of "I was done wrong" attitudes.
