We've had a bunch not pan out to the point where we're stuck in a competition between two "experienced" guys with the propensity to turn the ball over against half-decent competition (Mayfield and Knight) and a kid who completed less than 40% of his passes in three starts last season (Cody Thomas).

Justice Hansen. Gone. Kendall Thompson. Gone. Blake Bell...occasionally good, better than Knight - which isn't saying much - but, never developed into a reliable QB. Drew Allen.

I mean, I would see your point if it were 1999 again and Stoops were having to rebuild the team. But, the reason we only have three of eight starters on offense who are reliable is precisely because of recruiting and developmental f*ck ups that relate solely to Stoop and his assistants.

So...again...you pray that the defense will somehow have improved enough to make up for Mayfield's propensity to turn the ball over...as well as Knight's - because, at some point, Mayfield will be so bad that there will be no choice but to rotate Knight back into the mix.

I'm just looking forward to the team being different than the last couple of years. I may be very disappointed a month from now on how that different turns out, but even if it's worse, I wouldn't want to return to what we had. The old football cliche is that a team has to be able to run and stop the run. Well, we found out last year what happens when a team can't pass nor stop the pass and it's no fun. My expectations are not real high this year either. I'm not throwing in the towel on program expectations, but just looking at what we have this year which is set in stone at this point. It's looks highly unlikely we'll have a dominant OL and that's step one in controlling a game. Our QB situation needs no more discussion. But looking at Oregon (and BU and TCU in our own conference), it is possible to do much more with scheme and execution than OU has done lately without having 'Bama level talent at every position. That's what I'll be looking for.

Exactly. And, for those of us with season tickets, a pastime that we spend money on. But, we've been doing it long enough, and have seen enough football to know the difference between a quarterback like Jason White or Sam Bradford versus what we have now.

Those two are the standard. Josh Heupel was a good clutch player who threw his share of ints, but got us a championship. Nate Hybl was about the same, playing behind a sketchier O-line, yet being able to take hard hits and continue playing, and guided us to a Rose Bowl win.

Landry Jones was the poster boy for Stoops letting his offensive coaches become more obsessed with breaking records than winning big games.

I don't think the current QBs on the roster measure up to any of those in the past that I've just named. I've seen them all play. You've seen them all play. It's okay that we have different opinions. I think ENA and Blake Bell were better QBs than what we have now.

Notre Dame Stadium, Doak Campbell and Neyland Stadium. Which stadium is not the home of a National Championship participant in the last 5 years? Big stages are not necessarily defined only by capacity. The annual OU/Texas game draws 45,000 fans from each school. Truth is, if Tennessee was at least in consideration for an SEC title, this might be considered a big stage. From what I've read on Volnation, most Tennessee fans don't even think a 10 win season is in the offing. Big stages are made from two top ten teams playing. Neither participant were highly regarded preseason and both seem to have great potential. It is a big game, but to think OU is shaking in their boots at the thought of playing in Neyland and the 106,000 faithful, well that's just silly.
