Does anybody know when it was first used and how long before it was finally gone? I have a lot of items with this logo and I would like to kinda date them. I'm thinking sometime in the 70's ?

KIWF. This is OU's version of our 90s era 'Toxic Bear.'

That's a good resource for logo information. Says the one you've posted was first introduced in 1982 and retired in 1995.

It's better than the "potty seat" logo. Remember is was just an oval with half of it in crimson to show the "U". UGH!!!

I haven't seen that one. Is there a picture of one that you could link?

I found an old notebook from high school recently, and man, I was really into that disco OU logo.

One of my favorite cups in the World, is that dang logo. Hated it, love the cup and I bought it at the little souvenir store that used to (might still be there?) sit across the street from the stadium at Lindsay and Jenkins.

With something as iconic as the current OU logo, it's amazing that we ever used anything else. Seems like that is one of the first things that Joe C. did when he got onboard is change it to what we see today. OU just recently changed all of their service vehicles to the current logo. Hopefully OU's future leaders will leave it alone, for good.

pretty sure that logo came around the same time pc's got big. I associate it more with bball but it dominated the '80's OU gear.

I think Boren changed the logo when he arrived. It was a university logo, not just an athletic logo. Joe C arrived just a year or two after Boren so I'm sure he was involved on the changes on the athletic side.

disco logo was bad.

i would have guessed before 82, but if it's 82....we might have to say "new wave" logo. and not good new wave like arto lindsey or DNA but **** new wave like MTV.

that logo has to be before 82. imo.
