It is interesting that his political affiliation isn't mentioned until the 6th paragraph. Even then, it isn't directly attributed to him, but lumped together with someone else.

Probably because it's just a reasonable assumption he would be a democrat.

No, this has long been a media tactic. When it's a Republican, their political affiliation is often in the headline itself. For example: "Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker was forced to resign today amid a scandal involving...." That's how the headline would have read. With Democrats....their party is hardly mentioned.

This thread is trying to present democrats as have no integrity. It was his fiancee who has influence-peddling allegations, they are investigating him now. A "frenzy of criticism from prominent fellow Democrats, once strong allies." and he resigned. What else do you want? We showed we have integrity. See how different the democrats response to a democrat and the republican response to conservative governor Bob McDonnell who is now in prison. There was not a frenzy of criticism from prominent fellow republicans, once strong allies calling on mcdonnell to resign like we did in oregon. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/02/13/us-usa-politics-oregon-idUSKBN0LH29C20150213

Oh you are right... You are only talking about about gover... oh wait.. Gov. Scott is a governor. Sorry, the truth doesn't fit your dialogue. Republicans are calling for an investigation into a republican governor.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/07/01/sanford/

How about Governor Sanford. Oh yep. There it is. Calls for him to resign over his adultery scandal.

So you say republicans never do this but I've just posted two cases where they did exactly what you said they don't do. They called for investigations or resignations of the governor.

You cherry pick your cases. You move the goalposts. It's about corruption. No it's about pubs not speaking about corruption.. uh.. it's about pubs being bad people.. I don't see you talking about Mr. Hastings and how he is the ONLY person ever impeached and removed from office and then allowed to sit with the institution that removed him from his former office. That's the inmates running the asylum. Instead you only bat for your home team sir.

So how are you going to move the goalposts next?

As for McDonnell, good riddance. Corruption is corruption. Pay for play is as bad as bribery for decisions.

Umm... No Scott would be the most recent republican governor in trouble. But the fact that his investigation is being called for by republicans doesn't fit your constant monologue of all republicans are dirtbags who have no ethics, you wish to ignore it.

I've worked on a lot of campaigns, and I've been involved in politics for more than half my life now. I've seen a lot of dirtbag politicians, but saying they are *all* dirtbags is disingenuous hyperbole nonsense that exacerbates the problem by giving a tacit pass for politicians to be dirtbags since they are *all* dirtbags in any case.

There are decent men and women on both sides of the aisle.

ABSCAM, House Check Kiting Scandal, Abrahamoff on the national level.. just to name a few.. all within my lifetime. Not to mention I live in a state where 3 governors have been impeached. Oh and all 77 of the 77 County Commissioners were removed from office over OKScam. You'll have to forgive me if I think most of them are dirtbags. Did you actual read any of the articles you posted? You completely made my point for me. Unbelievable..........................

Quoting from the first article.. "Reagan followed this "commandment" during the first five primaries during the 1976 Republican primary against incumbent Gerald Ford, all of which he lost. He abandoned this approach in the North Carolina Primary and beat Ford 52–46, regaining momentum and winning a majority of delegates chosen after that date. Former Texas governor John Connally speculated that Reagan's attacks weakened Ford in his contest with his general election opponent and eventual successor, Jimmy Carter."

The next article is Gary Hart attacking Hillary for not adhering to the unwritten rule to not attack the party's front runner.

The third article is proof that politicians do whatever they have to do to win... sometimes within the law.

Ok - good for them. Now show me where conservative virgina governor bob mcDonnell had republicans calling for his resignation. You see - comparing governors.

With only 6 months left on his term when the investigations were under way, it doesn't appear anyone was really pushing for McDonnell to resign:

So far, McDonnell hasn't faced intense pressure to resign. Polling has shown encouraging signs for him; Democrats and Republicans have largely refrained from calling for his head, and he just hasn't sounded like a pol ready to call it a day.

On Wednesday, state Sen. Barbara Favola (D) called on McDonnell to resign. But most Democratic leaders haven't gone that far. McDonnell hasn't faced widespread calls from Republicans to hit the road, either.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/07/11/will-bob-mcdonnell-need-to-resign/

However, both candidates for governor suggested he should consider resigning.

Neither of the candidates, Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Democrat Terry McAuliffe, issued an outright call for McDonnell to leave office when asked about the controversy by the debate’s moderator. But both said he should at least contemplate stepping down.
