I'm confused. Do we have more jobs or more unemployment? Or more both?

Just more government statistics that are meaningless.

Just more government statistics that are meaningless.Initial Jobless Claims is a report issued by the U.S. Department of Labor on a weekly basis. The employment situation is extremely important for a macroeconomic analysis, so the financial markets track employment indicators, although this is a low impact indicator compared with the monthly BLS's "Employment Report". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobless_claims

The problem is that the unemployment rate has gone down, but the number of people who have dropped out of the job market entirely has never been higher. So, yes, unemployment has gone down but that number is derived from a smaller overall pool.

This is partially my fault. I haven't reported our December numbers to the BLS yet. You can 4 to that number.
