View Full Version : Happy CFB New Year 2015!

Tonight is the last game of the '14 season, making today CFB New Year's Eve.

May the team you like win tonight (or at least the one you bet on will make the spread) or the team you hate will fail miserably. And to the folks that are so down on the year that are not even going to watch - stop your lying! We know you'll watch - it's worth a brewski at least.

May 2015 bring OU great new coaches, a bountiful catch on NSD, an injury free spring and fall, a big12 title and beyond. And beat Texas!

Happy safe and fulfilling CFB New Year, SoonerFans!

Who do you guys think wins tonight?

I would prefer the Ducks, but don't care that much. I suspect Urban Meyer will spoil the party, but I don't have any $ on it. I think he takes advantage of all the losses the Ducks have had at WR and TE.

Mostly, I'll be celebrating the lack of an SEC! SEC! team winning.

True that! no sec team is always a plus. I can't believe I am rooting for the ducks as well.... Mainly because I think Ohio State shouldn't have been in in the first place. Like you said though Meyer is a hell of a coach.

I'm saying the same thing I said last time tOSU played. tOSU has the better coach, but the opposing team is better.

I'm taking Oregon. We'll see if I just repeated the same mistake.

I think Quacks will win. However, I really hate the quacks, and I will be cheering for tOSU.

Maybe tOSU could adopt your screen name for this game....since they are on the hunt to kill some ducks and all...

Oregon looked really good on their first drive, but haven't done much since. Ohio State capitalized on some good field position, and took the lead. This is not going the way I expected.

Lol pass interference no call but didn't hesitate to call it against Oregon just earlier. Good job big 12 refs

I'm sure they will find other things to screw up on too.

I would like to see Oregon win, but it would be fun to see the officials blow a call at the end that cost them the game.

Told you there loss at WR would cost them. At least they do get open, but there is that whole catch the ball detail.

After all the hype and funding by Phil knight, I still don't think the ducks are ready for prime time. I think they were overrated. Hype about Mariota and playing in the PAC-12. They have no answer for the ****nuts

It'll be fitting if somehow XII refs cost UO the game. Can't escape karma, quackers!

I don't know about all that. They are playing in the NC game after all. They were the first team to beat FSU in 2 years, and they did so in a more than mildly convincing fashion.

Disagree - Mariotta has been near flawless. But the Ducks are not as powerful on the line on either side of the ball. That's hard to beat no matter what scheme is employed and I suspect it will only get worse. Still, the game should be closer. Forgoing the first FG was a bad move given a full 4 yards to go. Both drops on 3rd down were perfectly thrown and uncontested, but that happens with replacement players. Their replacement TE is a real hinderance as he has run the wrong route twice or is just incredibly slower than the original starter. They are going to have to avoid calling his number if possible.

Hopefully this third stringer is playing so well that Miller transfers to OU.

Barrett is better than Miller - let's go for him. That ankle should be okay by Sept.

Mariota is solid no doubt, but tOSU has found the chink in the armor, and we saw them get exposed in the first half. If the buckeyes had not turned over the ball over twice, we could see a score of 35-10.

Overall, I'm not discounting the ducks season, but Mariota can't do it by himself, and I personally don't think they are as good as everyone thought.

10 seconds = td. That's what I expected to see from Oregon all night.
tOSU needs to respond or I think the ducks start taking off here.

I may be eating my words from my previous posts! :)

Amazing! That #9 tried his best to mess up a TD by dropping the ball early in the national title game! That early TD drop will never cease to amaze. Better to be cocky than make sure you score, I suppose.

Must suck to be Urban Meyer. If Jones win this, he's having to decide if he should go with his QB that had a 24 game winning streak, his 11-1 guy who is on a 10 game winning streak, or his other guy who won the conference championship game by 59 points, and then followed that up with playoff victories against the heavily favored #1 and #2 teams in his first three starts.

Rough life.

In all seriousness, though, Miller to OU is a perfectly acceptable far-fetched, yet plausible off-season idea to spend 10 pages on.

Quacks would've been tied if they'd have kicked that FG earlier in the game. I know that's not their MO, but there's going to be a lot of heat on Helfreich if they lose by 3 or less.

Put a fork in 'em. If it were not for the turnovers, this would have been a blowout long ago. Win in the trenches and win the game.

I'm still impressed with the Ducks. tOSU has better athletes at probably 8 out of 10 positions and these guys don't quit. I'm been calling for UO to drop a game for the last half of the season and they keep amazing me - especially with the injuries. I want OU to be elite and all, but more than anything, I'd like to seem them compete like that regardless of circumstances.

I was reading something that said the Bucknuts got an extra week or so to prepare thanks to their academic calendar. They're playing like it was an extra two.

BoulderSooner79

tOSU could have knelt down instead of scoring that last TD as UO was not calling TOs. Not that it matters, but could have added a bit of class and saved players the risk of a silly injury.

That thought crossed my mind, but it doesn't really matter in the end. Oregon would have continued to run their offense if the shoe had been on the other foot.

It could have been 58 to 20 if it weren't for turnovers. Even though they made it close there for a bit, the game never really felt close. After that first up drive, they looked discombobulated.

Heisman curse is back!

That's a wrap on 2014 - welcome 2015 and hopefully a better script for the Sooners. Change was needed and there will be change, so here's routing for it will be the right change. If I got anything out of the CFP and the whole bowl season is that I really want to see my Sooners compete. I saw so many teams that showed resilience even in desperate situations and hopelessly outmanned, but never giving up and doing the things they were capable of doing. I saw very few other teams as unprepared as our guys the last 1/3 of the season and into the bowl game and there is no reason for that. I hope 2015 sees the fight back in the OU dog.

BoulderSooner79

BTW, this tOSU team is not good news for OU and the big12. Until Meyer got to tOSU, the big10 had lost a bunch of respect and would always be considered a weaker conference. With 4 CFP slots and 5 conferences, this puts the big10 ahead of the big12 in terms of perception before the season kicksoff. And the big12 is already hurting due to logistics as was so painfully demonstrated this season. Our best hope is that FSU drops off and the ACC takes over that weak conference moniker. Of course, OU needs to rise back up to elite status for that to even matter.

Got that right! And they would have gone for the 2 point conversion to really rub it in.

That was my thought as soon as we found out that the XII was left out of the playoff. It has been nice that the big 10 has been so down the past few years b/c before their slump, they were the ones receiving the SEC treatment over on ESPN. Though I don't think it quite went to the extent that the SEC received. But next season, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they start ramming that back down our throats.

That said, the XII being considered irrelevant is less likely to hurt OU as it is the TCUs and Baylors of the conference, TCU's recent improved perception notwithstanding. Though not impossible if the rest of the field is tight and if perceptions of the XII continue to decline, I don't see even a 1-loss OU being passed over by any playoff committee provided we're up against other 1-loss teams and not undefeated ones.
