Not just one liberal who is forcing their beliefs down their students throats - but an entire state forcing a rightwingnut agenda upon EVERY student. State high school social studies teachers would be encouraged to use curriculum materials prepared by an institute funded by the conservative Koch family, under a proposal the Department of Public Instruction presented Wednesday. The Bill of Rights Institute, based in Virginia, had a $100,000, sole-source contract with the state to help develop materials for teachers to use in a course on founding principles that the state requires students to take. The institute was founded in 1999 and receives grants from David H. Koch, the Charles Koch Foundation, and the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation, according to a website on Koch family philanthropies. The state Department of Public Instruction decision to “highly recommend” that school districts use the Bill of Rights Institute material comes as the state is embroiled in a controversy over teaching history – whether schools have students study the founding principles as the law requires, whether AP U.S. History meets those requirements and whether the college-level course developed by the College Board has a liberal bias. The 390-page founding principles curriculum includes readings, activities, questions students should discuss and references to online resources for the 10 principles described in a 2011 law inspired by proposed legislation promoted by the American Legislative Exchange Council, a conservative group backed by major corporations.Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/12/03/4374397_state-education-department-used.html?sp=/99/100/&rh=1#storylink=cpy

I doubt that you have any idea what goes on inside a classroom.

The issues are much broader than curriculum. If you were a teacher you would know that.

The point I want to make is that it is not just about what you teach, but how you teach it. These ideas are put forth by the colleges and universities that train educators how to teach. With regards to curriculum our school a few years ago adopted a literacy program funded by a George Soros group. The program was not political in any way. There are many interest groups from all sides that have their fingers in the pie.

Remnant, I've been teaching 25 years. I have 8th on ignore...it's been a refreshing change....thank you for not quoting him!
My point in the liberal educators thread was the hypocrisy that is abound....although I totally disagree with having My Two Dads in the school library...if we are allowing that then the Bible needs to be accepted as well. Most liberals don't see it that way...crazy.

There was discussion about where does the line get drawn? Of course the comparison of the Bible vs Penthouse, etc isn't too far-fetched if we get into rights...there has to be a line. Legally we've decided certain material isn't available to anyone under 18...guess that's a start...then you get into 18 yr olds who are Sr in HS.

As far as curriculum....I agree, everyone wants their "fingers in the pie" as you stated.

That book that keeps getting mentioned - my two dads, does not exist. Nor does my two moms. That is his mentality.

Hey 8th, you only have to look to France to see how the liberal manifesto has failed miserably... And an extremely Socialist newspaper was attacked no less, say it ain't so! How could that happen, we have been sooo tolerant of people?
