If tOSU doesn't score a TD here, they didn't, it could be a long night for them, but it looks like Kiffen is to throw against the Bucs D.
That 3rd team QB for Ohio State is one big dude. I would've liked to see some kind of off-the-wall formation running play on 3rd there instead of letting their 3rd string QB pass, but I can understand why Meyer called it.. At least he threw it out of the EZ and not an EZ pick into quadruple coverage

With this new CFB format, I think the SEC will win their share - but not more than their share. Under the old BCS system, it probably would have been Bama vs. FSU as the polls never punished a team for being undefeated. I think Bama would have crushed FSU this year. tOSU and UO probably would have been left out.

Personally, I like more than 2 teams in a playoff, but I do like the BCS poll (including a % being dedicated to the computer ratings) instead of some committee choosing the 4 ( or more teams).
I also wouldn't mind seeing some weedeater bowl played before Christmas between the 4th and 5th team, if the 4th team wasn't clearly a lock, like this year--similar to an NFL wild card game.

Remember reading that under the old BCS it would have been FSU vs Bama ... and I agree in regards to the SEC and the new format. I know a lot of folks like to see the SEC lose given the recent run ... but the SEC isn't going anywhere. It's a fun league with major state schools across 11 states with a ton of passion for football. That said ... this new format is fantastic. It's great for college football that a Pac-12 and Big-10 team will play for it all this year ... it's great for interest in the game to see this played out on the field. I think the playoff will expand a bit but I really hope it doesn't go beyond 6 or 8 for the sake of the regular season and I'd love to keep it at conference champs only ... 1 per league, sorry Big-12, lol. But the playoff has brought back the fun of New Year's Day ... yesterday was the most enjoyable New Year's Day football watching I've had since the old days of bowl tie ins.

jkjsooner
1/2/2015, 09:25 AM
I agree that this has brought back New Year's Day football. It's been a long time...

As for the SEC, looks like the west was severely overrated. (Still the best division but not near the media hype.) The top 5 teams in the west all lost and some looked horrible at it.

It certainly brings to mind the criticism you heard here often. You can't tell a lot from most of their OOC schedules and when they started losing within the west they weren't punished for it. It became a self fulfilling prophecy.

I think it's safe to say that SEC dominance is over. Congrats to Ohio State, they beat us straight up.

The important thing is that ESPN is now saying that. Whether they remember that next fall remains to be seen.

Honestly I think Bama fans have a right to be highly annoyed with ESPN and their conference brethren about this. This perception has largely been borrowed from the success of your program. This is even more apparent after their dramatic about-face following your loss to Ohio State last night. What should be seen as a modern-day Bama dynasty has been sold as a SEC dynasty. In selling that fraud, both ESPN and others in your conference have spread a tremendous accomplishment into a thin lie.

Mac94
1/2/2015, 10:48 AM
What should be seen as a modern-day Bama dynasty has been sold as a SEC dynasty.

Bama was a huge part in it ... but Florida chipped in some MNCs, LSU had success, as did Auburn ... and three SEC schools had Heisman winners in that span. Bama was the lead dog, but not the only dog.

soonergirlNeugene

UteSooner
1/2/2015, 10:50 AM
Yep. SEC dominance was always about Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. Everyone else got a perception bump because of those 2 guys.

Just wait until the Harbaugh/Meyer duo does wonders for the Big 10's rep. I wonder what that will look like. Obviously won't be the same because Fox owns the Big 10 Network and not ESPN.

soonergirlNeugene
1/2/2015, 10:52 AM
Yep, ESPN will choose another anointed from its conference partners and the process will start anew. IF they don't just revert back to the same old song and dance next August.

The streak was Florida (Meyer), LSU (Miles), Florida (Meyer), Bama (Saban), Auburn (Chizik), Bama x2 (Saban) ... and Auburn played for it last yr under Malzahn but lost.

Most likely the game will even out some ... it's best for the sport to have powers in all the major conferences and real excitement in the bowl season. The SEC isn't going anywhere ... and that's a good thing ... it's good though that the Pac-12 has it's shot and it's good for the sport if the Big-10 is relevant. The ACC has some work to do and OU and Texas need to get it together.

UteSooner
1/2/2015, 11:58 AM
Yes. LSU and Auburn were part of the streak. LSU in a year where no one stood out (LSU had 2 losses...not even "good" losses at that). And then Auburn (we'll say Cam Newton instead of Chizik).

Agreed - as I said, the SEC will get their share. One only needs to look at the stream of players they send to the NFL who succeed at that level and the huge fan bases that support the teams. But even if there is a difference in conference strength, that difference gets razor thin when you look at the very best teams in each conference. That difference can be negated a good game plan or just one player having a lights-out performance. Yes, OU (and maybe the horns, grrr) need to get their act together and join in the fun.
