Doesn't seem like a lot but players from both bowls also receive a Gift Suite.

Gift suites are set up as private events in which game participants, and often bowl VIPs, are given an order form and allowed to select a gift, or gifts, up to a value that is predetermined by each specific bowl, not to exceed the NCAA limit of $550 per person.

Good question. My guess is yes, the powers that be throw a measly gift at them while raking in the mountain of cash the game generates. Not that the gifts are "measly", but they are compared to the money the game generates.

It is possible that they have to split the difference if they go to two "bowl games," so maybe that's why the playoff's first round looks more mediocre --- because a few teams are going to another "bowl" game.

But if they get twice as much, more power to 'em.

If anyone's curious; no, players cannot save the Best Buy gift cards and sell them on eBay after the fact. As with past years (I assume) they need to spend it all during the bowl trip and any remaining amount is forfeited. If you see a lot of football players roaming campus in Beats By Dre, this is likely where they got it from. :D
