From the replays, it didn't look like Shepard took a shot to the groin, but the way he reacted... was like he did. That's usually a groin pull. They can be mild, or severe. They can clear up fast, or linger an entire year. He was smiling, being carted off... but he's an upbeat kid. Hoping its just a mild strain.

Havnt heard but he was back on the sidelines before the 1/2 and Looked good.
Ima guess they held him out cause we just dint need him this game and to check him out in depth later

Strained groin.

Stoops said he wanted to come back (and probably would have), but it was already 21-7 and they felt like it would be better for him to sit out. We're going to need him at 100% next week.

Also, Keith Ford wasn't quite 100% with his cuts, so he was held out. Could have gone if he played another position, but since he uses his cuts so much in his running style, they want him to be at 100%

I'd be hard pressed to find a guy, pound for pound, with Shepards instincts and ability. Could be my favorite Sooner to watch since broyles and /or Clayton. The guy is fearless.

Glad they didn't let him back in and hope he will be available tomorrow. This gave the opportunity to see Knight throw it to other guys (we saw a bit of that on the drive that ended in a missed FG at the end of the K state game)

That's good to hear. We will need both of them next week

Broke his dong I believe...

He'll only be able to play against soft coverage from now on...per Dean

Yep. It ended up being a blessing in disguise. It forced Young and Quick to be productive, which helps tremendously with their confidence and the team's confidence in them.

You laugh, but I think he just took a shot to the nuts (Shepard, not Dean).

I've rewatched that play about 15 times, and Shepard doesn't not react like a guy that just suffered a groin strain (I've had a couple, and I never grabbed my nuts, it's always inner thigh, when it meets the pelvis). I think he came down on the defenders shoulder and it jammed his sack. He, almost immediately, grabs his balls and as time passes, it gets worse and he goes down (we've all felt that pain).

He was smiling and laughing as they were taking him off of the field. I don't think there was a muscle strain at all. By the time he was feeling 'better', the game was already out of hand, and why risk it if there could be any kind of injury?!

I hope you're right... (is it bad to hope some dude got knocked in the balls??)

On the cart, he was acting like it was a groin strain. Personally, I think he took a shot to the jewels and got a minor strain when he did the semi-splits after he took the shot.

Hoping that's all it is... and he's back on the field in time for this week's matchup against Baylor.

I've re-watched the whole thing (far too many times than I want to admit), and outside of him kinda rubbing his inner thigh, I don't see it. He was laughing at one point, and was walking fine when he came back out. He could have strained it a little, but I think the majority of his reaction was thanks to the DB's shoulder in his crotch.

I'd be very surprised if he wasn't practicing at some point this week, and even more surprised if he isn't on the field Saturday.

Apparently he practiced full speed yesterday and is good to go. Source: TFB.

I am hoping that his absence on Saturday (as well as his brief absence during KSU) meant that TK built up some kind of reasonable trust in the other receivers. Shepard is to him what Broyles was to Landry.

This seems to have been rather more serious than we'd hoped. Was reading today that he may not play vs Kansas.

Yep. Proves that I have no idea how to read injuries. I really thought he'd be good to go against Baylor...now it may not be until possibly OSU.

At least its not his senior year. That's as positive as I can be about it.

Hard to read injuries when the team keeps the real story a secret. But in this case, he was carted off the field, so there's that.

I understand why they keep the information guarded, but it's all just so weird.

The week of the Baylor game, it was a "day to day" situation. Last week, it was "he's playing", then he obviously didn't feel good enough to stay in the game. With Knight, he was "day to day" last week, but Stoops was clear today that he wouldn't play against KU.

They've never been very forthcoming with the injury info, and like I said, I understand the reasoning. It just makes me look bad on message boards...and I can't have that!

I guess it's one of those injuries where you can't really tell if it's healed until you push it, but pushing it risks making it worse.

BoulderSooner79
11/17/2014, 11:27 PM
I'm guessing they knew that TK wasn't going to play immediately but wanted to keep TT wondering. But now that the extent of the injury is out there, they are not bothered to try to hide it.

With groin strains, game day doesn't seem like a good time to test it. If it hasn't been solid at full go for a few days in practice, it's not going to hold when the intensity is up another notch.

It's spelled Shepard. Y'all show some respect for his father's legacy.

And for crying out loud get off my lawn!

Its a groin pull. When it happened, I said "not good". Anyone that's experienced more than one, knows there's ONE absolute. No one can tell you how long they'll last. You can be good to go, in a week... or they can linger all year long. It just takes one tweak, in the wrong area. The only injury I can remember being more stubborn and that's only because they still bug me to this day, are back spasms.
